Another cool use of nuclear power! Tritium is made as a result of neutron flux in CANDU reactor's heavy water moderator. The Tritium is removed from the heavy water as a special "detritation" plant at Darlington and the Tritium which naturally glows is used in lighting applications because it requires no power source and is 100% reliable. Tritium is very weakly radioactive with beta radiation 1/70th the energy of Potassium-40, the naturally occuring radioisotope of Potassium which bathes the nucleus and intracellular organelles of our cells and accounts for a good portion of our natural background radiation dose.

We Have One Nuke-Building Facility. It's Almost on Fire. - Popular Mechanics A major fire has consumed more than 90,000 acres and is burning out of control northwest of Amarillo, Texas. The fire is also a short distance from the Department of Energy’s infamous Pantex Plant. Pantex is the only site in America dedicated to assembling and disassembling nuclear weapons, and its loss would be a severe setback. One of the US government’s most important national security facilities is under threat from nature itself. The Pantex Plant, which builds, refurbishes, and disassembles nuclear weapons, is in the path of an advancing wildfire threatening the Texas panhandle. The loss of the Pantex facility—the only one of its kind—would cripple America’s ability to refurbish and rebuild existing nuclear weapons, and to make new ones in the event of an emergency. https://buff.ly/3PpUA0V
