🌟 I just learned that Ericsson and India's premier communications solutions provider have successfully demonstrate mmWave 5G functionality on airtel network! 🌟 Peak speeds of 4.7Gbps were achieved during the testing, demonstrating the applicability of mmWave for high network capacity requirements. 📱 So why is this important? The 5G high-band/mmWave spectrum is a valuable resource when targeting densely populated urban areas with large number of mobile devices, homes, and businesses. 🌐 The high band, above 24 gigahertz offers an opportunity for service providers to offer unprecedented peak rates, low latency, and high capacity. Basically, breakthroughs like this open doors to faster speeds and wider coverage getting us thinking about what this means for the future of connectivity. 📶 #️⃣ #Ericsson #Airtel #BeLimitless #5G #Network #mmWave #Connectivity #Technology #Innovation #TeamEricsoon

Katherine Ainley, CEO of Ericsson in the UK and Ireland, has been at the forefront of the discussion around standalone 5G and its potential impact on the region. In a recent interview, she emphasized the importance of shifting to standalone 5G, which she refers to as the gold standard of 5G. 💡 She highlighted the enhanced speeds, ultra-low latency, and network slicing capabilities that come with standalone 5G and pointed out that it has the potential to be the most transformative mobile network feature in a generation. She also discussed Ericsson's successful launch of standalone 5G with Vodafone in early 2023, with more launches expected in the year ahead. She emphasized Ericsson's commitment to openness and the evolution to increasingly open network architectures, as well as the company's involvement in projects to promote acceleration in this area. 🚀 What really stood out to me is Ericsson's key focus in the UK, which is the continuation of the 5G rollout. She emphasized the critical role that 5G technology can play in revolutionizing UK business and society, unlocking new industrial and consumer use cases. 🤝 What are your thoughts on the potential impact of standalone 5G in the region? 💬 #5G #Standalone #Ericsson #Connectivity

Some interesting takeaways I had from this are: 1. The importance of policy and regulatory in spectrum allocation. With national interests to propel the country into greater connectivity, we will see more opportunities for collaboration between service providers, regulators and technology providers. 2. With the focus of midband frequencies in the region, more innovation is appearing with the strategic use of midband. I note also the recent offering from NTT DCM to deliver 6.6Gbps combining sub-6 and mmWave. 3. There are still great contrasts within APAC for the rollout of 5G, with developed markets such as Korea and China while others are still starting their journey. An exciting and rich market for #5G innovation in APAC as always. #connectivity #sub6 #mmWave #APAC #innovation https://lnkd.in/gPhPsznH
