⭐ The Renault Trucks T achieves four stars ⭐ Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks recently published the first set of results from its pioneering TRUCK SAFE assessment programme. The T, from the French Renault, takes a very good star rating of four stars. 🚚 The T earns a strong rating due largely to its high-quality Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), getting balanced points across both Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance, most of which is standard fitment. It is more limited in its direct vision performance, although its recent addition of a CMS system has improved its overall Safe Driving score. Combined with the more limited direct vision, this makes it more suitable for the highway rather than the city. 🛣️ "Euro NCAP congratulates Renault Trucks on the impressive four-star performance of the T. 🏆 Business Safety: Platinum ratings for Ford Transit and Chinese Farizon SV 🏆 Euro NCAP believes small businesses or fleet managers purchasing vans should have access to the same safety information as regular consumers, and evaluates 95% of vans available on the European market. Today, Euro NCAP releases ratings for two vans: the #Ford #Transit and #Farizon #SV, both of which are awarded Platinum ratings for the high level of safety technologies fitted into the vehicles. 🦺👏 The latest version of the Transit excels in all areas, becoming the latest commercial van from Ford to gain a Platinum rating. With safety technologies on par with modern passenger cars, the Ford Transit offers the highest levels of safety for its drivers and other road users, bringing advanced confidence to driving on European roads. 🛣️ The Farizon SV, from Chinese giant Geely, is the newest and most futuristic offering in this segment and comes with most of the latest safety technologies. These perform well in Euro NCAP’s tests. Speed assistance is the only area where the Farizon did not excel—the van lost points as it does not include a speed control function to actively limit its speed. Despite this, the van’s Platinum rating places it among the best options for those looking for safety. 🚸 "We’ve seen a large increase in the fitment of safety technologies in commercial vans since the EU’s General Safety Regulation (GSR2) came into effect in July 2024. But Euro NCAP’s Platinum rating shows that a van’s performance goes beyond this legislation. We congratulate both Ford for its continued dedication in the safety sphere and Farizon for their high level of safety commitment as their van enters the European market. We would urge fleet managers to consider vans for their businesses that have the Euro NCAP Platinum rating. 🏆 The VW Caddy Cargo brings home a Platinum 🏆 Euro NCAP awards the VW #CaddyCargo a Safety Assist Performance of 83%. The Caddy name has been around for decades, referring to several generations of VW commercial vehicles. The vehicle tested here is the fifth generation, in diesel form. Did you know that vans and cars have different speed limits on the roads? If you are a van driver that uses a LCV / Light Commercial Vehicle you will have to comply with road laws which are different to your car. An LCV is a van which has gross weight of 2,000kgs (2T) all the way up to 3,500kgs (3.5T). For example, if you drive the likes of a Renault Kangoo, Ford Transit Custom or Mercedes Sprinter you will have to obey these laws. All Makes and models of van in this range whether they are small, medium or large have to comply with their own speed restrictions. ⭐ Heavy Goods Vehicle safety in the spotlight as Euro NCAP launches brand-new TRUCK SAFE assessment programme ⭐ Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks releases its first set of test results as it continues its drive towards achieving Vision Zero. 🚛 The safety of the trucks on European roads is in the spotlight after Euro NCAP today revealed the first set of results for its brand-new TRUCK SAFE assessment programme. This is the very first time that HGVs have been tested for safety. Out of nine trucks assessed, Volvo’s FH Aero and FM models both earned a maximum five-star rating, while IVECO’s current S-WAY model emerged as the weakest performer with one star. 🛣️ “This testing shows there is a big difference between the relative safety of current truck models. It’s worth noting the differences we’re seeing are down to manufacturers’ current safety strategies. Assessing HGVs for safety in regard to making our roads safer. This new Euro NCAP process looks at the time before a crash, during, and after and provides ratings based on each segment. These include safe driving including driver and occupant monitoring, driver assistance and direct visibility. Also included are the assessment of the ADAS or other technology that can assist in avoiding a crash or reducing severe nature of such. And lastly they look at the ability to extract people from a vehicle. While some of these new testing factors involve those inside a vehicle it is encouraging that so many take into account making trucks safer in interactions with vulnerable road users. Kudos to Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks for their new TRUCK SAFE assessment program and their first run of truck evaluations.

Federal Motor Transport Authority Flensburg, 4 September 2024.  197,322 new passenger cars were registered in August, -27.8 % fewer than in the same month last year. 65.1 %(-32.1%) of new cars were registered commercially and 34.8 %(-18.1%) privately. The German brands all recorded declines in new registrations compared to the same month last year, with VW once again the only brand with the highest share at 17.9 %. “Safety is always a top priority at Daimler Buses,” From 7 July 2024, the EU's updated General Safety Regulation (GSR) will require all newly registered buses to have a whole range of driver assistance systems in order to further increase road safety for all parties involved. The current safety and assistance systems in Mercedes‑Benz and Setra brand buses do not simply meet the requirements of the GSR; some functions even go beyond the level required by the GSR. Assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist 5/6 or Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist or Traffic Sign Assist now come as standard in all vehicle variants and represent further added value for Mercedes‑Benz and Setra city, intercity and touring coaches. The introduction of the new safety systems is also an opportunity for Daimler Buses to continue the long tradition of the “Safety Coach”.
