This past weekend, our Toronto office ushered in the festive season with our third-annual kids’ holiday party. A staple employee event of our holiday season, this family-friendly social brings together WildBrains and Wildkids alike for a morning of food, fun and memories. This year’s event included face painting, ornament-making and movies, and we were thrilled to be joined by a couple of special little helpers to lead a morning of interactive activities and entertainment! A special thank you to our party-planning committee and volunteers for another amazing event. Let the holiday season begin! 🎁⛄❄️

>>Seminar Spotlight<< Halloween to Ho Ho Ho: Multiple Holiday Design 📢: Scott Swenson - Scott Swenson Creative Development 📅 Date: Friday 2/28 🕒 10:15am - 11:15pm 📍 Room 120 Halloween events now start in late August and Christmas/Winter Holiday events begin in early November. For organizations, like haunted houses, holiday attractions, theme parks, zoo's or event operators this decreased changeover time can be challenging, both physically and financially. This workshop shares real world case studies and practical advice on how to save time and money by designing Halloween and Christmas installations at the same time. This holistic approach can encourage cross utilization of space and assets while reducing the effort needed to change seasons in a week. Even certain cast members can be utilized for both holidays. The trick is to stop thinking about the Halloween and Christmas as separate entities and more like “act one and act two of the same play”.

Celebrating Halloween: A Time for Creativity and Connection As October 31st approaches, Halloween is on the horizon—a holiday that transcends mere costumes and candy. It offers a unique opportunity to embrace creativity and strengthen community ties. Creativity Unleashed Halloween encourages self-expression through costumes, decorations, and themed events. This spirit of creativity can be mirrored in the workplace. By fostering an environment that values innovative thinking and open dialogue, organizations can inspire employees to share fresh ideas and solutions. Building Community Halloween is also about connection. Neighbourhoods come alive with trick-or-treaters, and communities host festive events that bring people together. In professional settings, cultivating a sense of community is equally important. Team-building activities and collaborative projects can enhance camaraderie, leading to a more engaged and motivated workforce. As we celebrate Halloween, let’s embrace its themes of creativity and connection, both personally and professionally. Wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween! 🎃👻

Halloween celebrations at the office can be fun. Here are 5 tips for keeping your party from spooking Human Resources. ✅ Communication: Clearly communicate the theme, rules, and expectations for the Halloween event. This includes any opt-out options for employees who prefer not to participate. ✅ Inclusivity: Offer non-Halloween related activities or allow those not participating to opt for a quiet workday without disturbance. ✅ Safety and Comfort: Ensure costumes are safe for the workplace (no excessive makeup that could be considered inappropriate, weapons, or anything that could make work dangerous).Encourage a change of clothes if necessary. ✅ Respect for Work: While fun is important, remind employees of the need to maintain productivity. Schedule most festive activities around lunch or set dedicated times for Halloween festivities. ✅ Some fun ideas include costume contests, pumpkin carving or painting contests, decorate cubicles, halloween-themed desert potluck, or have a committee decorate the office. As always, have fun and use this time to create comraderie with your staff. Happy Halloween!

It’s the spookiest time of the year, and Halloween parties are just around the corner! A big shout out to my co-social coordinator, Raleigh, for helping design an inclusive postgraduate party for the University of York's philosophy department last year. The goal of any office or department Halloween party should be to ensure that everyone feels welcome and enjoys the event. Here are five tips to make your Halloween party more accessible and inclusive: 1. Consider dietary needs and restrictions. Offering vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-friendly options is always a great idea! Clearly label all food and beverages to eliminate guesswork. 2. Be mindful of venue accessibility. Choose spaces that accommodate all guests, ensuring ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms are available. Provide adequate lighting, clear signage, and flexible seating arrangements to make sure everyone is comfortable. 3. Create sensory-friendly spaces. Designate a quiet area for anyone who may need a break from loud music, bright lights, or large crowds (make sure your designated quiet area is accessible for everyone). 4. Make activities and entertainment inclusive. Plan games and activities that everyone can participate in, avoiding those that may exclude individuals with different abilities or needs. 5. Be thoughtful about costumes. If it’s a costume party, encourage costumes that are inclusive and culturally sensitive. Wishing you all a safe, fun, and inclusive Halloween season! 🎃

At work, celebrating Halloween can be a fantastic way to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive company culture. It encourages staff to engage in teamwork and enjoy light-hearted, collaborative fun. Through the simple act of dressing up or participating in themed activities, employees can take a break from the usual work stress, leading to a refreshing change of pace and improved job satisfaction. Halloween festivities at the office can enhance team dynamics, spark innovation, and make the workplace a more engaging and enjoyable space. To celebrate Halloween in your workplace: Arrange a costume competition with categories like 'Scariest Costume' or 'Most Creative Costume.' Organize a decoration contest for the best-decorated workspaces or departments. Plan a 'Halloween Fun Hour' filled with themed games, candy, and activities. Provide candy and treats for employees (and kids!)

🎃 Halloween: A Global Celebration of Spookiness? 👻 Globalization and the influence of American culture have brought Halloween to Germany and across Europe. Although we’ve been celebrating Halloween in Germany for about two decades, moving to the USA with my family provided me with a clearer understanding of the holiday’s nuances. Here are some key differences I've noticed: 🎃 Decorations: In the USA, Halloween decorations begin to appear as early as late September and are found in a wide variety of places—from private homes to doctors’ offices and public buildings. The holiday feels like a season in itself here. 🎃 Costumes: In Germany, Halloween costumes tend to focus on the spooky—think witches, vampires, and skeletons—while more playful or themed costumes are typically reserved for Carnival in February. In contrast, Halloween in the USA embraces a broader spectrum, including superheroes, cute animals, athletes, and even provocative outfits. 🎃 Trick-or-Treating vs. Trunk-or-Treating: While trick-or-treating, where children go door to door for treats, is well-known in Germany, trunk-or-treating has gained popularity in recent years in the USA. In trunk-or-treat events, participants decorate their car trunks and gather in parking lots, creating mini trick-or-treat stations. This setup is often viewed as safer, as it takes place in a controlled environment, reducing traffic concerns and allowing parents to supervise their children more closely. 💡 How do you celebrate Halloween in your country? ____________________________________ ✅ Do you operate globally? Is Your Office Ready for Halloween? 🎃 Halloween isn’t just for trick-or-treaters—it’s a great time to bring some fun and creativity into the office! My team at Western Rooter & Plumbing went all out this year with some amazing videos and decorations, getting everyone in the spirit of the season. Moments like these remind us how important it is to keep our work environment engaging and let our team show off their creativity. Here’s what I’ve learned about celebrating holidays at work: • Boosts Motivation: When we celebrate together, it’s more than just fun. It boosts morale, brings people closer, and reminds everyone that we’re in this together. • Creativity Unleashed: From themed videos to fun costumes, encouraging creativity in the workplace adds a fresh perspective and builds a stronger team connection. • Be a Boss Who Cares: A supportive environment where people can express themselves goes a long way in keeping a team motivated, focused, and happy to come to work every day. And remember, the scariest thing about your plumbing should be how fast we fix it! We got this—no monster clog or ghostly gurgle stands a chance! Happy Halloween to all, and let’s keep that spooky spirit going strong in the office!
