Spotlight of the Week: Marty Harvey
Marty Harvey’s journey in the trade began back in 1980-81 when he started at a vocational center in Battle Creek, learning the ropes of tool and die making. From 1981 to 1997, he gained hands-on experience at Griswold Tool and Die, building various equipment and tools. In 1997, he started at Mayer Tool, where he stayed until a layoff in 2017. Since then, he’s been a valued member of Michigan Tool Works. ⚙️🔧
Daily Routine:
Marty’s typical day involves checking screens and job lists to ensure that all small parts like pins, baffles, gibs, and locks are manufactured for tools. He plays a critical role in getting molds built on time, accurately, and with precision, while always maintaining high quality. Always willing to lend a hand, he’s a key support for the team. ⏱️🔩

“To anyone still in school, take as many math classes as you can. This trade involves a great deal of math. Stay diligent in your attention to detail and always try your best—you’ll pick up more skills with time on the job.” 📐✏️
