Education funding is crucial for the future of Africa's children. Less than 1 in 5 African countries dedicate 20 per cent or more of their public spending to education. It's time to prioritize foundational learning and ensure every child has a chance to thrive. #DAC2024 #YearofEducation

Education is paramount in Sub-Saharan Africa, where access to quality schooling can be limited. Advocacy is crucial to ensure that all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status, have the opportunity to learn and thrive. By amplifying the voices of underserved communities, we can drive meaningful change and create a more equitable future.
#AkumActForEducation CAMPAIGN WEEK 1 : QUALITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE [Out-of-School Children in Africa] By 2050, one-third of all children aged 6 to 15 will live in sub-Saharan Africa, up from one in five today (UNESCO, 2022). Africa is home to 40% of the world’s out-of-school children, with 98 million lacking access to primary and secondary education as of 2023 (UNESCO). To tackle this issue, Akuma recommends : -Expanding initiatives to train and hire more teachers, especially in rural and underserved areas, to address the educator shortage in sub-Saharan Africa. -Prioritizing electrification of schools and improve basic infrastructure to ensure conducive learning environments, especially in primary education. -Collaborating with private organizations to close the education funding gap, focusing on long-term support for teacher training, resources, and technology. -Leveraging technology to enhance equity, quality, and resilience. Remember to join this interesting webinar
While education is the largest public expenditure in #Africa, financing remains insufficient and often ineffective. According to UNESCO, getting all African children in school will require 9 million additional classrooms to be built (or approximately $100 billion investment), and 9.5 million additional teachers to be recruited and trained. To mark this year's Day of The African Child, we, along with other members of the Joining Forces Alliance, call for increased investment in education while ensuring the efficient use of resources to reap maximum returns. https://lnkd.in/d5TpjSMz #EducationforAll #Africa #DAC2024 #DayofTheAfricanChild

Article: Investing in Africa’s children is investing in Africa’s future The Day of the African Child celebrates our youth's potential while reminding us of the challenges they face. This year's theme, "Education for all children in Africa: the time is now," resonates deeply with the African Union's goal of preparing Africa's workforce for the 21st century. My counterpart, @Hon. Madalitso Wirima Kambauwa from Malawi and I highlight the critical need to prioritize foundational learning (reading, writing, and math) by age 10 in our joint article. Strong foundational skills are the building blocks for future success, both academically and economically. The current reality - nearly 90% of African children struggle with these basics - hinders individual empowerment and Africa's economic growth. The time for action is now. Let’s: Embedding data-driven approaches Enhance Teacher Training Improve Educational Infrastructure Be er utilisation of existing resources Fostering Community Engagement Together, we can build resilient education systems and unlock the potential of Africa. The time for action is now! #ChangeTheirStory #FoundationalLearning #DayoftheAfricanChild #DAC2024

Despite the challenges facing children’s education in Africa, there are many positive developments to celebrate! 🎉📚 Thanks to partnerships with international organizations like UNICEF and UNESCO, Africa is seeing significant improvements in education across Africa. 🌍 Africa is also making strides in closing the gender gap in some communities through continued efforts to promote and improve literacy among children. 👧🏽👦🏾📖 Local NGOs and community support have driven incredible initiatives to provide resources for underprivileged students. 🙌🏽 And with new technological innovations, learning apps are giving children in underserved areas better access to education. 📱💡 Government initiatives are stepping up to improve educational quality and literacy in underprivileged communities, raising awareness and creating real change. 🏫✍🏽 So, despite the challenges, let’s take a moment to appreciate all the progress being made. Happy Children's Day! 🎉 This year, we celebrate with the theme: "For every child, every right." Every child deserves the right to quality education, yet millions are still deprived of this essential opportunity. According to UNESCO, in Sub-Saharan Africa, 258 million children and adolescents are out of school, and in Nigeria alone, over 10 million children remain unenrolled. This staggering statistic highlights the urgent need for action. To ensure every child's right to quality education and a brighter future, we must: 1️⃣Increase funding for education: Governments and international organizations must prioritize and allocate more resources to the education sector. 2️⃣Build and improve infrastructure: Safe, well-equipped schools are essential for effective learning. 3️⃣Train and support teachers: Qualified and motivated educators are crucial for delivering quality education. 4️⃣Promote inclusive education: Ensure all children, including girls, children with disabilities, and marginalized groups, have equal access to learning opportunities. Let's come together to uphold the rights of every child and build a future where education is a reality for all. #ChildrensDay2024 #ForEveryChildEveryRight #RightToEducation #UNESCO #EducationForAll

The statistics highlight the urgent need to equip Africa’s youth with education, vocational training, and support for special needs. With changing socio-economic conditions, these numbers can improve or worsen. It’s crucial that we take steps, no matter how small, to address these challenges and push for progress.
