Women’s football deserves leaders who can shape its future. And we’re committed to nurturing them. 💪 🌍 Whether it’s through world-class development at our academies in Ghana, Denmark and Egypt, opportunities at our clubs FC Nordsjaelland and FC Masar, or initiatives that empower women in football, we’re creating pathways where women can lead, inspire, and thrive. One way we’re doing this? Coaching Queens. 👑 A program launched last year in partnership with The Powerhouse Project and Nike. Its mission? To empower and inspire female coaches across Africa. 🎯 The inaugural program in Ghana brought together six talented women. They gained hands-on training and mentorship to take their first steps toward earning CAF D Licenses. This year, Coaching Queens went bigger. 🚀 The second cohort welcomed 12 women, six from Ghana and six from Egypt. At Right to Dream Egypt, they participated in leadership workshops, practical coaching sessions, and expert-led mentorship. But Coaching Queens isn’t just about coaching. It’s about building a support network. 🤝 A space where women can connect with like-minded individuals who understand their journey. For us, building leadership in women’s football is about more than today. Students are driven to achieve the best scores possible, as their future academic opportunities depend heavily on these exam results. This emphasis on competition over collaboration has deeply influenced the way individuals approach teamwork, not only in schools but also in their professional lives. When dealing with teams in Zambia, there is need to explore how this competitive framework shapes behaviors, stifles collaboration, and ultimately hampers the development of meaningful interpersonal relationships that are essential for effective teamwork. Perhaps, I'm most grateful for the great examples, tutelage and advice from a motley collection of mentors, colleagues and leaders. My first encounter was helping facilitate a professional book club curated for business leaders, across East Africa. The professional service ran over two years and through more than twenty-eight sessions, most of which I was still an undergraduate student at the University of Nairobi. The second inflection point happened when I was seconded to the U.K, as part of a leadership development program. The change, pardon the cliché, expanded my horizon – not only offering me an opportunity to work on complex engagements, but also broadened my network. I draw great lessons, examples and friendships from my time in the U.K. and remain in touch with former colleagues – all of whom, who have had some great achievements since then. The most recent fortunate linkage was the choice to go to business school. Attending Wharton was pivotal in enabling my career shift to Investment Banking and still has an outsized influence in many of my professional and social interactions in New York. Reflecting on my experiences, I think a lot about how best to expand the lucky sequences and the opportunity set to others.
