Social Work has an essential role in the multidisciplinary work of integrated primary prevention across the Department of Defense’s effort (DoDI 6400.09 & 6400.11) - to include micro / mezzo / macro. #IPPW #socialwork
This Veterans Day, I’m reflecting on the unique and essential role that social work plays in supporting our military veterans. I’m honored to have collaborated and co-authored sections of the newly released Council on Social Work Education Specialized Practice Curricular Guide for Military Social Work under the leadership of CAPT Stephanie Felder, PhD, LCSW, CEM, CAC-II, ACC, BCD, ACTTP. Published just in time for Veterans Day, this guide is a valuable resource designed to equip future social workers with the skills and knowledge needed to meet the complex needs of those who have served our country. https://lnkd.in/gAhH_GWf?

Indigenous Veterans Day – November 8, 2024 On this Indigenous Veterans Day, we take a moment to remember and honour the brave men and women who have fought valiantly, many making the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms and rights. Their courage and dedication deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. It’s important to recognize, however, that Indigenous veterans did not always receive the same benefits and recognition as their non-Indigenous counterparts upon returning home. This inequality underscores the ongoing struggles for justice and fairness within our communities. This day becomes even more significant as we now use it to give Indigenous veterans the recognition and honour they were denied, acknowledging their sacrifices in the way they always deserved. Indigenous Veterans Day also serves as an opportunity to educate others about the inequities Indigenous veterans faced—and the broader challenges that Indigenous Peoples continue to encounter today. Today, let us stand together in gratitude, recognizing the sacrifices and contributions of Indigenous veterans. Their courage continues to inspire us as we work toward equality and respect for all who serve. #Treaty1 #TreatyOne #Indigenous #Veterans #FirstNations #Honour #Remembrance

For #NationalMinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we are spotlighting New York Health Foundation's New York State Minority Veterans Needs Assessment. Over the past 30 years, women and racial/ethnic minorities have increasingly joined the military, diversifying our veteran population. By 2040, racial/ethnic minorities are expected to make up 37% of New York’s veteran population, and women will comprise more than 10% by 2025. This needs assessment provides key insights into how we can better support minority veterans. Understanding their needs will help improve services for all veterans. Learn more and read the full assessment here: https://lnkd.in/eNjt7BkG

This video picks up from my previous posts from earlier in the week that talked about some of the cultural clashes that we witnessed during the 1950’s and 1960’s. In addition, it picks up from the most recent post discussing Project 2025 and its agenda in promoting extremism in various forms of militarism and religious fervor under the guise of patriotism. In this video the content creator discusses the registration of men between the age of 18 and 24 for selective military service which is automatic and this process could be the potential first step in the event of reinstatement of a military draft similar to what occurred in the 1960’s and 1970’s during the war in Vietnam. This video analyzes the various reasons as to why military recruitment and retention rates have declined. In addition, even those who enlist to join are not accepted due to a lack of physical fitness requirements or the inability to pass the intellectual testing that is required for individuals to serve. While people in society want to criticize the “woke movements,” a lot of these movements came out of the civil rights, feminist, and gay liberation movements that originated during the 1950’s and 1960’s. These movements shaped and influenced society, popular culture, and American history.
Is a US Military Draft Inevitable?
