What does the latest GOV.UK report on apprenticeships mean for JTL? Read what our Chief Executive, Chris Claydon MA, has to say: “Through the recently released data, we can see that employer demand for electrical and plumbing apprenticeships is encouraging, though employer bodies are still calling for more to meet specific workforce requirements and close skills gaps, which we are taking into consideration as we develop our strategy. "Indeed, it’s promising to see that there is a continued enthusiasm for apprenticeships within the STEM sector, which we have also witnessed throughout our business and the wider industry. Despite a marginal decrease in electrical apprenticeships from the previous year, there were over 7,400 starts in 2022/23, well above the 10-year average of around 6,000. "The industry is also seeing continued growth for plumbing apprenticeships and there is an appetite to learn about new and emerging technologies in this sector, such as heat pumps, which will positively contribute to the closing of the existing skills gap and help meet the Government’s wider net-zero targets. "JTL continues to collaborate with employers and apprentices to enhance training programmes and deliver a skilled and resilient workforce in-line with the growing demand of the wider industry." Wisconsin has achieved a historic milestone with 16,384 apprentices enrolled in its Registered Apprenticeship Program, the highest in its 112-year history! Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced this achievement during National Apprenticeship Week. This record-breaking enrollment highlights the growing popularity of apprenticeships as a pathway to high-demand, family-supporting careers. Apprenticeships in Wisconsin offer a unique “earn while you learn” model, combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction. This dual training system ensures that apprentices gain both practical skills and technical knowledge, making them highly skilled and valuable to employers. As we continue to face workforce challenges, investing in apprenticeships is crucial for building a 21st-century workforce. Kudos to all the apprentices, employers, and partners involved in making this program a success! #WorkforceDevelopment #Apprenticeships #CareerGrowth #SkillsTraining #Wisconsin #WIN https://lnkd.in/gtAEcTv2

Where and how far you will go depends on what you choose. Are you choosing an electrical class or an electrical apprenticeship??? Ask yourself these questions: · If the electrical class(es) you are looking at or enrolled in does NOT offer you employment or resources to employment, it’s not an apprenticeship. · If it is NOT a four-year accredited program, leading to licensure, it is NOT an apprenticeship. · Are people enrolled in your class that are not aiming to be electricians? Are they there to simply learn fundamentals? If the answer is Yes- that’s NOT an apprenticeship class. · Are the students employed, getting on the job training, as well as related classroom instruction and labs under the tutelage of a professional electrician? The states requires OJL/On the Job Learning hours(verified) as a part of your accredited apprenticeship. If the answer is NO, it’s NOT an apprenticeship program. You don’t have to wonder what IEC Chesapeake offers- we are very transparent. Start with our Apprenticeship FAQ’s and work your way over to our Apprenticeship offerings and locations: https://lnkd.in/dwUrFFs https://lnkd.in/d2ctn38 https://lnkd.in/egjESNS6 Your employer does NOT have to be an IECC chapter member to utilize our apprenticeship-ever. Make an informed choice my Friend.

I do find this odd. The apprenticeship Standard is designed under IfATE and UKMHA were not apart of the IfATE Panel. UKMHA can not approve apprenticeships, they are approved by IfATE and signed-off by the DfE. Surely UKMHA should endorse all 3 providers if approving an apprenticeship for the industry. The provider they are endorsing has the worst achievement rate (35%) out of the three providers offering this. Highest achievement rate on the Gov. Find Apprenticeship Training is F-TEC Forklift Training Engineering Centre Ltd with a 57% achievement rate. Surely UKMHA should ensure apprenticeship training is marketed through the best option/s.

The #ElectricalSkillsIndex dataset - built by ECA - Excellence in Electrotechnical and Engineering Services - analyses how many people in England are starting electrical classroom-only courses compared to apprenticeships. A shocking number of areas in England are facing a shortage of electrical skills. ECA - Excellence in Electrotechnical and Engineering Services
There’s a national shortage of qualified electricians. People across England want to become electricians and enrol on classroom-only courses, but they aren’t progressing into apprenticeships. 12 months after finishing these courses, only 10% are securing an apprenticeship to complete their training as electricians! You need hands on experience to qualify as an electrician. Our #ElectricalSkillsIndex analyses how many people in England are starting electrical classroom-only courses compared to apprenticeships. Definitely a skills shortage, in my role as as electrical tutor, I also hear a lot of negativity about poor work ethics of apprentices and a reluctance from some to take new blood on. It's definitely not all bad of course - there are some real gems as well! But as an industry we all need to work together, truly value the next generation and not treat them as cheap labour. We need to invest our time, skills, work ethos and yes possibly money in developing the next generation. Ask yourselves, if you have apprentice, what have you done to engage with their trainers? Have you gone into there training environment (college) and engaged with the tutors and there contempories. Could you support them a bit more.?
