The centuries-old Smithfield meat market will cease trading by 2028, the market’s owner the City of London Corporation has announced. The Corporation, which is the City’s government authority, voted down plans to move the market from its historic home in Farringdon to a new site in Dagenham due to spiralling costs. Canary Wharf’s Billingsgate fish market was also going to be relocated to Dagenham but will now be closing as well. Smithfield is the UK’s biggest wholesale meat market and has been operating in some form for at least 800 years. Billingsgate, the largest inland fish market in the UK, has been in operation since the 16th century. According to City AM, declining consumption of meat and fish were a factor in the decision not to move Smithfield and Billingsgate. Read more here -

Exciting news 🌿 Tarkiner Indoor Plant Food is now available exclusively at Bunnings! That’s right!! As I was strolling through the local Bunnings store recently I saw it with my own eyes, and I must confess, seeing Tarkiner Indoor Plant Food on the shelves gave me a really big buzz. It’s absolutely rewarding because from the very beginning, being part of this project has been nothing short of extraordinary. It’s not just about the legal work—though that’s certainly kept me busy. But rather, it’s about the people. It’s about community. Aboriginal business done right- it’s always about community. Working with mob, supporting mob & empowering mob through the process. What truly stands out is the journey and the triumphs of our clients. Experiencing the journey, being a part of it, as Tarkiner Indoor Plant Food product came to life, and by it reaching the shelves is a testament to the incredible dedication and collaboration of everyone involved. It’s moments like these that make it all worthwhile. I am genuinely moved by the impact this product will have, not just on our homes and gardens, but in celebrating and honouring Aboriginal wisdom for the mob involved and their culture. It’s a proud moment for all of us, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Here’s to more exciting times ahead. Well done, everyone involved! #AMKLaw #TarkinerPlantFood #CHAC #AboriginalBusiness #lawyerlife #kinaway #supplynation #TheCircleFNEH #community #Aboriginal

You're probably familiar with the carrot 🥕 at the top of this picture 📷, but maybe not the colourful ones below? Well, they're also carrots, just not the dominant variety. There is nothing wrong with the the typical orange carrots, which were grown in the Holland Marsh in Bradford, Ontario. But why limit ourselves to only one variety, when there is a literal rainbow of carrot varieties to choose from? These colorful ones were grown on a farm in Flamborough (rural part of Hamilton) and I picked them up at the Hamilton Farmer's Market 🚜. So next time you're at a Farmer's Market or at a local grocery store, maybe try a new variety and if none are available, maybe ask why not. #Food #Produce #Variety #Diversity #FoodlandOntario #Carrots #Farmers #FarmersMarkets #FarmersFeedCities #HamOnt #RandomMusings

We have a saying at Feeding America, which is "When you've seen one food bank, you've seen one food bank". That is to say that every food bank is unique, but I love this glimpse into a "typical day" at City Harvest because it speaks to the volume and variety of produce that almost every food bank strives for. Many people don't realize that food banks can handle truckloads of product, not just cases. Food banks are ready to handle any size of donation, none are too big or too small! Thanks to many retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, farmers and growers that keep donation in mind when they have surplus or unsaleables. Donation is a great solution; message me if you would like more information. #donate #fighthunger #zerowaste
Experience a day in the City Harvest warehouse! There’s never a dull moment for Warehouse Manager Betty Rodriguez and our warehouse team! Every day, we receive nearly 76,000 pounds of high-quality rescued food that would otherwise go to waste and prepare our fleet of trucks to deliver fresh food like watermelon, kale, carrots, cauliflower, and much more, to our New York neighbors in need. #WeAreCityHarvest

With the HVADC Dairy Funding Accelerator in full swing, program advisors Kimberly Hickok, Megan Harris-Pero, Esq., Rose Wilson and Sylke Chesterfield visited participating farm North Country Creamery. The program combines virtual and in-person training for small-herd farmers to help each participant meet their individualized business needs and prepare to apply for grants.
Spent much of yesterday in Keeseville, NY at North Country Creamery. Farm owners, Ashlee Kleinhammer and Steven Googin, gave us a lovely tour of their farm, cheesemaking operation and on-site farm store. The group included fellow farmers and consultants, like me, engaged by Hudson Valley AgriBusiness Development Corporation to provide support for farms and other agribusinesses. Thanks Sylke Chesterfield for organizing our field trip. In this pic I'm with Megan Harris-Pero, Esq. and Rose Wilson (who I finally got to meet in person!). As we go into the holiday season, please remember to support as many local food producers as you can.

Question: What does the Formula 1 Grand Prix have in common with the Northcote Local Food Garden - a communal permaculture patch in Melbourne's inner north? Answer: Not much, until this year. Back in March, the Reground team worked with Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix to collect all of the ground coffee from the event and deliver it to NLFG, located not far from Reground HQ in Darebin City Council. At the Food Garden, Kerrie and the other volunteers are now using the ground coffee to create perfectly calibrated compost and prepare the garden for autumn planting. When we say we're turning waste into a resource, this is what we mean. The ground coffee that event organisers would otherwise have paid high fees to send to #landfill is instead helping nourish soil and grow #community right here in Melbourne. It's simple, it's local and it works.

Dandelion and Burdock - many have heard the name, but not everyone realises that this drink was traditionally made by fermenting the roots of the two plants - Dandelion and Burdock, both of which are very common in the wild! In reality there are many edible uses for the plants, especially Dandelion. In this video we talk about the edible parts of Dandelion and Burdock, or at least my favourite parts anyway! #dandelion #burdock #edibleplants #wildcamping #foraging #wildfood

Earlier this month the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and Hopsteiner UK took brewers on a hop walk at Redsells farm in Faversham, Kent. The day brings brewers, growers and merchants together with experts from across the industry to look at the crop and hear about future plans. This year’s theme was sustainability. The growers are constantly working and learning from each other as to how to make their businesses more sustainable for the long term. We have lost almost 50% of our hop growing acreage in 5 years and to remain viable, hop growers are demonstrating wonderful flair and resilience in this field. Our Hopsteiner hops are helping. Designed to be drought and disease resistant, they require less intervention, have a lower carbon footprint, and therefore the yield is higher per hectare. Working alongside our growers and brewers is what Hopsteiner prides itself on, being proactive to change, managing risks and being world class at innovation. #farming #hops #brewers #beer #sustainability #worldclass #harvest2024 #farminglife #hopsteiner Hopsteiner Deutschland Hopsteiner
