“When I walked in, I felt held.” These were Donna Darbin Pullen’s first words when asked about her time at the Hospice. Such a simple statement that means so much. This is exactly how we want families to feel when they walk through the doors to the Hospice. During the most difficult of times, we are able to share the weight with them and offer them support both physically and emotionally. The support of our local community enables us to give this level of outstanding care to those who need us. Please help us to continue to do this by supporting our Always In Our Hearts Appeal. Talking to children about hospice care and end-of-life can be tough, but it’s important to approach the conversation with honesty and simplicity. 💚 Use clear, age-appropriate language to explain that hospice is there to help loved ones feel comfortable when they are very sick and cannot get better. 💚 Let children know it’s okay to feel sad and encourage them to ask questions and express their emotions. 💚 Assure them that it’s normal to have many feelings during this time and remind them that they can always talk about their thoughts and feelings as they come up. At Hospice Promise, we understand how difficult these conversations can be and we are here to offer support in any way we can. https://lnkd.in/gbFj5atQ #HospicePromise #GlendaleArizona #EndOfLifeCare #PhoenixArizona #HospiceCare

Many families have shared that while their experience with a funeral home or hospice was wonderful during the immediate loss, they felt abandoned afterward. This highlights a common issue: although these services excel in the short term, they often struggle to provide ongoing support. How does your funeral home or hospice bridge the gap between the end of services and the continued care families need? To address this, innovative approaches and a commitment to sustained support are essential. A Service-Based Aftercare Partner could be the solution for both your organization and the families you serve. #Funeral #Hospice #ServiceBasedAftercare

Did you know that Children’s hospices rely on grants and charitable donations to provide vital services to children and their families - from play to medical care, to respite care and advocacy? Without services such as these provided to my family and our daughter, I don’t know how we would have coped during her short life. Community NHS support is a postcode lottery with long waiting lists, so the closure of a children’s hospice should worry everyone - even if you’re fortunate enough to never need one. What can you do? ✅ Support your local hospice by taking part in fundraisers, volunteering or donating. £40 provides an hour of nursing care ✅ Follow and support charities like Together for Short Lives, which further supports families of children with life-limiting conditions (for example, we were gifted a mini break to make memories and received the Butterfly Fund to assist with funeral costs) ✅ Write to your MP and sign petitions to ensure vital services aren’t lost and vulnerable children can live their lives with dignity and care.
Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, Liverpool 's decision to close at the end of 2024 is very difficult for the children and families who receive care from the hospice, the staff who tirelessly provide it and all those in the local community who support it. We know that this will have been a very challenging decision for Zoe’s Place’s trustees to make too. Our thoughts are with them all at this difficult time. Together for Short Lives commits to working with professionals and services in Merseyside to help make sure that the children and families affected by this decision can access the palliative care they need, when and where they need it. I attended the Keech Hospice Care Compassionate Neighbours workshop, an engaging reflection of what we can further do to support one another. ⚫ Being a compassionate neighbour for Keech Hospice Care means offering support, kindness, and understanding to those facing life-limiting illnesses. ⚫ It involves small acts of kindness, offering a listening ear, or assisting with daily tasks small things that we may take for granted however make a massive impact! ⚫ Showing empathy and presence can provide comfort and alleviate feelings of isolation for patients and their loved ones which can be a common factor. Ultimately creating a caring environment, contributing to a network of support that goes beyond the hospice encouraging a true spirit of community care.

Check out how Topkare Hospice honors life for those who choose our hospice services.
How does Topkare Hospice honor and acknowledge each life who chooses to use our hospice services? Death is a sacred part of life and Rebekah Finn our Bereavment Coordinator shares a ritual of using feathers she found in nature to recognize and represent each soul who has transitioned during our bi-weekly Interdiscplinary Team Meetings. She also adds their initials to dissolvable paper and uses a battery operated light to hold space for each of them. These feathers and initials will be collected for the 2024-2025 year and be used during our 2025 Annual Memorial. If want to learn more about hospice or have questions whether you qualify for free hospice services reach out to Kieran Rogers or call our office at 858.381.0098.

Such an important and thoughtful message, beautifully written …
Strategic Thinking Consultant / Sustainable Innovation Facilitator / Chair of Irish Hospice Foundation / NED An Bord Iascaigh Mhara / Author of Green Shoots blog
Chatting about the op-ed I was writing for today's Irish Independent, really brought home to me how important it is to start talking about death with your loved ones. The concept of ‘building a conversational scaffold’, is to me a game changer - once you have started talking about death with someone you have something you can build on. Talking about this with two good friends of mine, they spoke of how at one’s mother, and the others fathers deathbed, that they didn't know whether they had permission to bring up the topic of death. ….. and so they never did. This for both of them is an abiding regret. So just start ….. The Irish Hospice Foundation Think Ahead resources will help access them https://lnkd.in/e89eAeww https://lnkd.in/e-A43BsG
