“Mental health has a biology of its own. Trauma has a biology” - Gita Chaudhuri. At The Balance, we acknowledge that trauma and emotional experiences leave imprints on the brain and nervous system. We focus on addressing the entire system—mind, body, and spirit—because we believe that separating these parts limits the effectiveness of treatment. We sat down with our Director of Psychotherapy Gita Chaudhuri, to discuss this concept, why it is so important, and how The Balance uses it as the foundation of our integrative approach. Trauma-Trained psych*delic preparation and integration is 90% of healing with psych*delics. If you're going to put your infinite consciousness into non-ordinary reality for a timeless amount of non-dual time - consider preparation. Psych*delics work in the opposite way of pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals suppress and tone down symptoms. Psych*edelics express and turn up emotions and memories of root causes, Traumas, ancestral burdens, and intergenerational wounds. Collective Trauma even can show up. Are you ready for that? When you are in expanded states of consciousness not bound to time - you do want to have a good somatic, mental, emotional, and energetic skill set in order to have a transformative (and not a Traumatic) experience. I'm a MAPS approved Trauma-Trained psychedelic preparation and integration specialist. Want to have the skill set to be with your darkest memories with nonjudgmental loving awareness? Trauma-Trained psych*delic preparation is the key.🔑 . . . 🤔 What Your School Didn't Teach You: Why Starting with the Body is Crucial for Healing When we are overwhelmed and dysregulated, the body and brain respond quickly and instinctively. This response is not a conscious decision but a survival mechanism designed to protect us. I am a follower of Dr. Gabor Maté, and he emphasizes that trauma often disconnects us from our bodies and authentic selves, leading to these automatic survival responses (Maté, 2023). Our bodies react to stress and trauma with immediate, protective measures, often without our conscious awareness. This is why it's crucial to start with the BODY in therapy. Understanding and working through the physical manifestations can help in reconnecting and promoting healing. Let's equip ourselves with the right tools and knowledge. ✨🌱 If this resonates with you, let's connect and support each other in promoting effective and compassionate care. #psychologist #psychotherapist #solpsychologicalservices

Myths, Action and Understanding Chronic Illness A while back a client mentioned friends with chronic illness and how that is all they talked about. This person wondered aloud about the link between childhood trauma and chronic illness. Understanding yourself includes understanding your present condition - and if you are unwell with a chronic condition, this may take considerable time to understand and come to terms with (hence all the wanting to talk about it). If it is due to something like an obvious illness causing a chronic disability, or is from an accident for example, then this is easier for others to accept as a fact of your life. If what you have is not well understood, then you may be subjected to damaging stigma and Clinical Associated Trauma. Many chronic conditions which are not well understood, or 'scientifically' justified, end up falling into this 'somatisation' or 'trauma case/related' category - which is often implied and assumed that it is a psychological problem, not a biological one (eg genetic). This is most often wrong - completely incorrect. It is also very damaging to those who have chronic illness causing great distress and rejection. https://lnkd.in/gx7QzE3Z

Trauma. Psychological trauma. This topic fascinates me, its created a fireball of passion in me. Last year involved a lot of trauma healing for me. Peeling back layer after layer. Revealing and healing things that were causing me mental and physical discomfort. I have also spent a lot of time and money educating myself about trauma and how it affects us. I want to help others to understand their mind and bodies better so that they are no longer prisoner to their past. I want people to feel safe. I am bringing HeartHealing™; a science backed therapeutic modality, to Worcestershire this April. I will be doing an in person workshop Sunday 28th April at The Studio @ the Barn, Stourport. I aim to educate and equip people with the steps they need to launch their healing journey. To book one of the limited spaces follow this link: https://lnkd.in/exUb4WvQ This will be a safe, nurturing, intimate environment for people that genuinely want to make lasting, positive change in their lives. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. #traumahealing #psychologicalsafety

Last weekend, I attended the ‘Intro to Psychotraumatology’ workshop conducted by Ms. Sudha Kudva, president of Trauma Therapy Association (TTA). I’ve always resonated with trauma work, both personally and professionally, and this workshop further reinforced my passion for this work. Here are some of the main takeaways I got from this workshop: - Our body has a ‘mind’ of its own that begins recording experiences since conception. - We can mess with our body however we want (e.g., starve ourselves to look ‘pretty’, overwork ourselves to feel valued, numb our feelings to avoid pain, etc.), but in the end, the body always wins! - The key to a meaningful life is meaningful connections (trust and belonging). Sadly, humans tend to sacrifice true connection for survival. And oftentimes, the first connection that we sacrifice is the connection with ourselves. - Trauma is deeply embedded in our systems (economic, education, legal, culture, etc.) which forces us to focus on survival rather than living. - Healing doesn’t mean the pain is gone; it just means the pain doesn’t linger. #therapy #counselling #psychology #healing #healingjourney #therapyworks #therapypractice #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthcare #mentalhealthprofessionals #mentalhealththerapist #mentalhealthcounseling #trauma #traumahealing

How Trauma Affects the Brain 🧠 Trauma leaves a lasting impact not only emotionally but also physically, altering key areas of the brain like the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus. These changes can lead to difficulties in decision-making, emotional regulation, heightened anxiety, and challenges with memory and learning. At the MENATA Conference, we’ll delve deeper into the effects of trauma and ways to promote healing. Join us from November 15th - 17th to learn more and help advance trauma-informed care in the MENA region.
