Climate change disproportionately affects women. For instance, female smallholders typically have less diversified livelihoods and occupy marginalized roles within the agricultural value chain, often working as home-based or informal labourers for inadequate pay despite contributing to farm work. Additionally, women frequently face exclusion from contract farming arrangements due to not being perceived as real or legitimate farmers. #climatechange #smallholders #womenfarmers #agriculturalvaluechain #

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals that were established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. The SDGs are an expansion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and they aim to achieve a more sustainable and equitable world by 2030. The SDGs cover a wide range of issues, including poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and climate action. They are meant to be a roadmap for countries, organizations, and individuals to work towards a more sustainable future.

Put simply, intersectionality is the concept that all oppression is linked. It emphasizes the importance of considering various perspectives to deal with social injustice comprehensively. When tackling climate change, adopting an intersectional approach is vital. This means examining climate issues through different lenses, like Gender Based Violence, to effectively address its complexities. #intersectionality #climateaction #sexualassaultawarenessmonth

The climate crisis is reshaping our world, but the impacts are not felt equally. A gender-just transition is not a luxury but a necessity. It means ensuring that the move to a low-carbon economy doesn't perpetuate or worsen gender inequalities. Key principles—participatory justice, distributive justice, recognitional justice, and restorative justice—must be reimagined through a feminist lens to truly address these disparities. The UK must lead by example, integrating gender justice into our climate policies. #ClimateChange #GenderEquality #JustTransition

Yesterday, at #COP16Colombia, #UNDP launched the 'Nature for Development' publication. This is the result of months of hard work and co-creation between experts in different development practices. As part of our #NaturePledge (https://lnkd.in/dNQb3EwG), 'Nature for Development' recognizes that addressing the nature crisis is essential to eradicating and preventing poverty, reducing inequalities, and protecting human rights. Moreover, nature is a positive source of solutions and hope: a nature-positive transition is central to tackling planetary crises such as climate change. This is a living asset and a call to action that offers entry points to operationalize the opportunity to advance the SDGs through nature. It will help decision-makers and practitioners recognize programming options and make the case for investing in nature to achieve development outcomes. It comprises key facts, figures and talking points about nature through five different practice lenses: a. Nature for Food Security b. Nature for Water Security c. Nature for Climate Action d. Nature for Gender Equality e. Nature for Peace We will expand it in the upcoming months to cover more practices. Let us know what would be useful to have next. You can download the entire publication or individual action kits. Enjoy! Midori Paxton Jamison Ervin Penny Stock Josie Raine Claudia Ortiz Cate Owren Ciara Daniels Andrew Bovarnick Dr. Mary M.
