Boldness isn't just about stepping out of our comfort zones—it's about breaking the chains that hold entire communities back. When women embrace their power and challenge existing structures, they don't just shatter glass ceilings; they create new spaces where others can rise. This photo, taken over a decade ago at Hotel Adlon during the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, marks a pivotal moment at first African Fashion press conference. Back then, I didn’t fully grasp the boldness of my actions or the lasting impact it would have. What I did know was that it was essential—African and diasporic creativity needed a platform, a voice that spoke from an authentic perspective. We could no longer afford to be overlooked. Our message was unmistakable: we were there to set a new standard in fashion, one that recognized and celebrated the richness of our heritage. Power structures are designed to maintain the status quo, but the true potential for transformative change lies within those who have been marginalized. Their resilience, creativity, and unique perspectives are the very solutions we need. Let's celebrate boldness in women everywhere. January 24th 2024 ~Butterfly Mark Certified @positiveluxury 🦋♻️🌴 ~ . Super excited to join the Real Changemakers in the Positive Luxury community. We’ve been in conversation with Positive Luxury in and out for the last 6 years and finally as we decided to level up, we signed up to undergo the rigorous ESG Assessment with their amazingly researched team of sustainability professionals . Our industry is often riddled with Greenwashing confusing customers on where brands truly stand. As a founder and creator I wanted us to undergo this data backed assessment however small our base as we grow mindfully, keen to quantify the efforts we’ve made over the years to build a conscious luxury brand. We often think we are better than we are on several parameters but the process is humbling and we have to see how far we really have to go to be ‘better’. Here, in full transparency is how we scored on parameters ~ from year one from a score of 44 percent we had a 50 percent improvement to year 2 of 66 percent overall. The Butterfly Mark is awarded to luxury brands who cross over 50 percent in data backed assessments across Environmental, Social, Governance and Innovation. Here is how we scored :- . 1) Environment ~ 🦋 63 % 2) Social ~ 🦋 58 % 3) Governance ~ 🦋 70% 4) Innovation ~ 🦋 91% . Committed to the #unsdgs of Quality Education, Gender Equality, Life below Water and Life on Land we hope to improve ourselves at the next level of assessment two years in.
