LOW HANGING MICROPHONE One of the segments in Women Who Podcast magazine is Low Hanging Microphone. It's a play on the corporate term low hanging fruit - which is not my favorite so I put a twist on it. In the October issue of Women Who Podcast magazine, the segment discussed Podcast Guest Acquisition Strategies. Here's a snippet of the article: Getting guests on your podcast can significantly elevate its content and expand your audience. Here are some effective strategies to get that “perfect” guest on your show. Leverage Your Network ⭐ Start with people you know. Reach out to friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who have relevant knowledge or experiences. ⭐ Ask for referrals. If you’ve already had guests, ask them if they can recommend someone in their circle who might be a good fit. Cold Outreach ⭐ Email outreach: Research potential guests, find their contact information, and send them personalized emails explaining why they’d be a great fit for your show. ⭐ Social media: DM potential guests on platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, or Instagram. Keep it professional and concise, but highlight what makes your podcast interesting to them. Guest Pitch Platforms ⭐ Use platforms like Podchaser or MatchMaker.fm, where podcasters and potential guests connect. ⭐ Join Facebook groups or LinkedIn communities for podcasting, where many people offer themselves as guests. Read the full article in the October issue of Women Who Podcast magazine (womenwhopodcastmag.com).

Damnit LinkedIn being a creator on LinkedIn is frustrating. I exclusively make business technology content and have been working on building my audience on LinkedIn with video natively and not just pushing people to my Youtube channel. However, requiring files be less than 5GB, and then also less than 15 minutes, and even when I meet these criteria, still takes a while to process with no control over the video, this is very frustrating. I would love to be able to upload full length conversations, this podcast episode was 24 minutes. I even rendered it at 1080p to come in under the 5GB limit. I prefer 4K because my content often features screen recordings, and with technical content you want it as clear and sharp as possible, however that is not possible as the file is significantly larger. I understand Linkedin is interested in becoming a bigger player in the social video space, however this needs a lot of work to get there.

Followers build brands. (conversations build businesses) Not profile views. Not comments. Not followers. Not likes. Here’s the actual formula ↓ Profile views + Comments + Followers + Likes = Conversations And here’s the key: Conversations → Invitations → Conversions Once you have conversations, take the next step: - Invite them to your offer doc. - Invite them to your live event. - Invite them to your podcast. - Invite them to your workshop. Offer genuine value → solve a problem that matters to them. Then, extend a clear, actionable invitation to work with you further. That’s the entire game. Focus on the conversations that convert. P.S. I completely agree that the key to building meaningful connections is based on the principle of giving. It’s easy to fall into the trap of focusing on our own needs when we're networking, but truly understanding and supporting others creates long-lasting relationships. I really like your practical suggestions, like buying their book or leaving reviews for their project or business. These actions show genuine interest while also demonstrating that we’re invested in their success. Networking truly is about creating a cycle of mutual benefit.

Want to know the “secret” to creating amazing connections with influential people? Here it is: Give. Give. Give. Give. The biggest mistake people make when networking is leading with their own needs: “I need help with X.” “Please tell me how to do Y.” “Here’s my resume, please take a look.” Instead, put yourself in the other person’s shoes. What could you do to benefit them? Do your research, understand what goals they’re driving against, then figure out how you can make an impact: • Do they have a book? Buy a few copies to share with your friends, then send the author a note. • Are they starting a podcast? Reviews are gold, find 10 friends to leave reviews and let the host know. • Do they have goals (of course they do!)? Introduce them to someone who can help them achieve those goals. If all else fails, consistently engage with / share their content in a meaningful way. Charles Dickens said, “no one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of another.” We all have something to give, sometimes you just need to get creative. Next time you want to connect with someone, find ways to offer value, then lead with that and be persistent. I promise you’ll get responses.

Why “No” Is My Favorite Word in Podcast Guesting 🎙️❌ Ever gotten a “no” and felt like the door was slammed shut? Well, I’ve found that “no” is just the start of the conversation. In my recent interview with Jason Cerone, I shared one of my favorite strategies: “When I get a ‘no,’ it’s an opportunity for a counter offer.” For example, if a podcast says they’re only interviewing women, I’ll reply: “Thanks for the response. Noted that you’re only interviewing women right now. How would you like to be a guest on my show?” Guess what? 50% of the time I get a YES. 💡 Takeaway: A ‘no’ is never the end. It’s a chance to pivot, offer value, and find new ways to collaborate. It’s all about finding the counteroffer and keeping the conversation going. Your Challenge: Next time you hear “no,” ask yourself: What’s my counteroffer? You never know what doors it might open. 🎧 Want to hear more strategies for being an impactful podcast guest?
