NEW REPORT by the Center for Effective Philanthropy 👉 “Bridging the Gap: The Role of Intermediary Funders” At WomenStrong International, we know the power of strong partnerships in making lasting change. As an intermediary funder, we work hand-in-hand with grassroots organizations to “bridge the gap” between communities and larger funding sources, ensuring that resources reach those on the frontlines of the fight for gender equality. A new report by the Center for Effective Philanthropy highlights how intermediary funders like WomenStrong help build trust, strengthen relationships, and increase impact by listening to grantee partners and responding to their needs. 🌍✨ Together, we’re driving social change from the ground up, empowering women and girls, and transforming communities. 🔗 Read more about the role of intermediary funders in advancing equity and justice: https://lnkd.in/eHTQ-5yC #WomenStrong #IntermediaryFunder #Philanthropy #SocialJustice #GenderEquality #Grantmaking #BridgingTheGap

"Trans organisations across the globe lack the resources to build capacities and strengthen their institutions as they chase project funding, leaving many on the brink of collapse. Trans leaders face persecution and violence, which contributes to movement-wide burnout. Despite this reality, trans movements continue to fight, to organise, and to make life-saving and strategic gains. (...) Anti-gender actors have exploited these tensions for maximum impact. Yet, trans movements stand at the nexus of struggles for human rights, bodily autonomy, and the defense of democracy. Worldwide, trans organisations are advocating for the right to self-determination regarding gender identity and expression, for competent and affirming healthcare, safety from violence, equitable economic opportunities, and the right to self-organise. These efforts are crucial in the advancement of human rights, and their success or defeat holds major implications for broader and intersecting movements."
As funders and activists come together at the #MovingMoneyBuildingMovements convening in Bangkok this December, the International Trans Fund (ITF) examines what it truly means for the philanthropic community, in solidarity with feminist funds and organizations, to engage in profound transitions. https://lnkd.in/dskzJG9K

"Humanising features" are an important element in a successful charity website. When you’re promoting a cause, you need to reach out and make a connection. And, in the digital world, that means keeping it human. When you can’t meet your audience face to face, try showcasing your supporters, writing conversational content and using relatable, people-led imagery. https://lnkd.in/eWWA-FCz does this nicely and this approach continues down the page where they highlight the number of people who have already taken action for the cause. #charity #webdesign #website

These emerging models redefine resources to encompass non-financial contributions and emphasize that safety and well-being should be accessible to all. Philanthropy, deeply rooted across the African continent and within diasporic communities, includes diverse forms of giving—horizontal, solidarity-focused, financial, and non-financial—that reflect the generosity and resilience of the global majority. https://lnkd.in/e5pAgphJ

Women’s possibilities and potential have been restricted by historical and cultural conventions that have frequently placed them in subordinate situations, despite their continuing accomplishments witnessed in society. Acknowledging women's rights is recognizing that all people, regardless of gender, should have equal access to opportunities for employment, education, and personal development. By recognizing the shortcomings of our own narratives when it comes to women’s rights, we can take the first steps towards contributing to equality. Alongside leading LGBTQ+ organizations, the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest challenged Florida's ban on gender-affirming health care for transgender youth and restrictions on such care for adults in the landmark case, Doe v. Ladapo. At trial in December 2023, Lowenstein lawyers argued that Florida’s law and rules are unconstitutional because they are grounded in intentional discrimination against transgender people. A decision in the case is imminent. The new Global Resources Report has landed! This is the most comprehensive record of funding for LGBTI communities worldwide and a decade of data makes this report the most comprehensive and important to date. The headline is really heartening – a 56% increase in funding in 2021-22 for LGBTI issues in the Global South and East. A testament to the work of activists around the globe making the case for their work and achieving change. More needs to be done (global funding for LGBTI rights still represents only 39c in every $100 of foundation spending), but progress is being made. Like all reports, the devil is in the detail – this increase in funding is not equitable and growth is not always guaranteed. 61% of all funding continues to focus on the Global North and 60 countries saw reductions in the amount of funding they received. Strikingly, Southern Africa has seen almost no increase in the funding it receives since 2013. Just accounting for inflation, this is a significant real terms reduction in funding over the decade. Lots more to learn from this report and thanks to the amazing team behind it! Ezra Berkley Nepon, Jay Postic, David Scamell, Matthew Hart, Global Philanthropy Project, Inc.
