Loved this episode on Veritasium: https://lnkd.in/guwpUrMp tl;dr: Different play strategies were set up to play against each other on classic prisoner's dilemma as a tournament. Broadly, strategies could be categorized as either "nice" or "nasty" (nice ones play nice until the other plays nasty). While for one-shot prisoners dilemma "nasty" strategies wins, interestingly, in multi-round version, all the nice strategies beat out all the nasty ones. The conclusions from winning strategies were: 1) Be nice 2) Be forgiving 3) Don't be a pushover 4) Be clear in strategy The strategies were then set to evolve over generations (with high scoring ones in one generation getting more seats in the next generation), and interestingly, even if the initial population were mostly nasty with a small island of nice players, over time, the nice took over the whole population. The overall conclusion was "you dont need to be altruistic or morally driven. Even if just looking out for own self-interest, playing nice turns out to be the best approach". p.s: All those strategies were rule based ones (tit-for-tat etc.). Would be interesting to see how different LLMs would fair when played out against each other.

Have you heard of the Monty Hall problem? It’s a classic probability puzzle that challenges our intuition. Here's how the game works: You’re on a game show with three doors. Behind one door is a shiny new car (the prize!). Behind the other two are goats. You pick one door, let’s say Door 1. The host, who knows what’s behind each door, opens another door (e.g., Door 3) to reveal a goat. Now, the host asks: Do you want to stick with Door 1 or switch to Door 2? Does switch doors change your chance of winning?
