As #England gears up to play the #Netherlands tomorrow, I can't help but giggle at the thought of recruitment consultants going to extraordinary lengths to get candidates out of bed and into work Thursday. 🤣🤣 It's got us reminiscing about some of the wildest stories in our recruiting days. There's nothing quite like the thrill of tracking down a candidate who seems to have vanished into thin air, especially when a client is eagerly waiting! 🕵🏻♂️ One of my favourite stories involves a candidate who, despite confirming their availability, went MIA. After several unanswered calls, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I drove to their last known address in #Sheffield, only to find no one home. Not one to be easily deterred, I called their emergency contact (after all, desperate times call for desperate measures right!). Turns out, they were at a friend's place. I managed to get the friend's address and, after some convincing, persuaded the candidate to come outside. Yes, I was practically knocking on doors like a bailiff and almost climbing through windows! 🙈🙈🙈 But, we got them to the job, and the client was thoroughly impressed with our efforts! Recruitment is not for the faint-hearted. It's about persistence, creativity, and sometimes, a bit of detective work.👮🏻♀️🚓 As we cheer for England tomorrow, let's also give a nod to all the recruiters out there who go above and beyond to make sure the right people are in the right places, no matter what it takes. What's your best story about tracking down a candidate to get them to work? Share your experiences below! #Recruitment #TalesFromTheTrenches #EnglandVsNetherlands #PersistencePaysOff #RecruiterLife ⚽

When a large community experiences, it is common they find peace in empathy. BUT...that does not change the way you find work.... Two Communities: Job Seekers - looking Job Posters - hiring Unless those looking are hiring, not much is solving the problem by spending time, or hearing bad advice, and being upset with those looking together. HOWEVER...If those looking work on finding ways to get hired together, the efforts become more impactful. Action solves problems. Not discussing feelings, unless you are strategizing But still...you have to execute that strategy.

National Forgiveness Day 🤝 In the world of recruitment, we know that everyone has a past – even star candidates. That's why this #NationalForgivenessDay, we want to remind employers to keep an open mind and focus on a person's potential, not just their resume. At Expedient Staffing, we believe in second chances and skills-based hiring. By forgiving past missteps and investing in training, you can unlock a wealth of untapped talent. Part of my work with clients is talking about their non-negotiables for their next roles. What are the 5 things you need to be in place for this next role to feel successful or meaningful? Flexibility comes up for many clients – yet it means different things to different people. So – what does it mean to you? And how’s it going? Sometimes it’s as simple as - I want to be treated like a grownup. If I need to run an errand during the day AND I get all of my work done – it’s not a major event where I need to account for the 30 minutes I was gone. Also – most of the working parents I support want to log off between 6:30 and 8:30 to spend QT with their families. They may log on after to check a few emails…or they may dive into the latest streaming true crime docuseries. Or both at the same time 😁 Whatever you want it to look like with your work day, it’s important to take the time to reflect on your work-life boundary-setting wins – and the areas where it may be falling apart. Are you able to carve out sacred, disconnected time? Is it respected by your employer or your clients? Are you jumping into after hours or weekend work without being asked? Where is this coming from? Does it feel expansive and energizing? Or is it coming from a place of fear? I need to prove my value. Responsiveness equals usefulness. We’re going to be discussing setting work-life boundaries, holding our lines, the discomfort when others disagree, powerful ways to say no…and more in our next Career Connections Conversation. To be part of this chat on May 2nd and a member of this growing community of vulnerable, supportive and wise humans sign up at https://lnkd.in/ePEBw_rm. Our last conversation about asking for help was heart-filling. Everyone walked away with new friends and career advocates. Hope to get you thinking about how it’s going with your own boundaries – and even better get to chat with you about it soon!

I'd rather not see people write things like this in place of a #coverletter. "I will not ask you to read a bunch of blah, blah, blah." In my opinion, you can either include one or not (there are good reasons for and against). And I understand that not every recruiter reads them, but I do. In fact, I LIKE to read cover letters. I know, crazy! They're typically 3 paragraphs or less, which isn't too bad. Most people don't include them because they're optional (only about 38% of job seekers include a cover letter, by the way). For those that do write them, I consider it my duty to read them. If someone cared enough to think it, write it, proofread and edit it, then I care enough to read it. So no, it's not "blah, blah, blah." It's important.
