Did you know that multitasking can actually reduce your productivity by up to 40%? When we try to juggle multiple tasks, our brains work overtime switching between them—leading to mistakes, stress, and wasted time. Instead, embrace the power of single-tasking. Focusing on one task at a time allows you to work smarter, not harder. You'll achieve better results in less time by giving your full attention to what’s in front of you. WorkingSmarts is all about championing brain-friendly methods backed by neuroscience to help you and your team stay sharp, productive, and fulfilled. Want to learn more about creating a smarter, more focused workplace? Start with this simple shift: one thing at a time. Did you know people are efficient for not more than 3 hrs per day? 😱 According to studies examining workplace efficiency, more than half the average eight-hour workday is spent on low-value activities, distractions, or fatigue. So, increasing work hours and working overtime is NOT equal to being more productive! In fact, it’s been proven to have the opposite effect. 😬 Long work hours have been shown to stress employees to the point where they make more mistakes, lose motivation, get sick, or even leave. Longer work hours have also been linked to higher mortality rates! 🤯 This goes to show that the solution is not working long, but working smart. 😎 💪 Pull out that Pomodoro Technique, some time-blocking tactics, and make maximum use of your daily three hours! 😄 What have you done this year that you believe has increased your productivity? Managing workload management as a team What happens when everyone in a team is overcommitted? Teams may have heroes who work hard to catch up. These heroes are often the same people all the time, working late for different reasons - perhaps their skills are needed more, or they have a flexible family situation. Sometimes overtime pay or recognition can encourage this behaviour. ¤¤ As a team, think about how you want to work. ?? Do you want everyone to work within set hours or do you want to work unusually hard together until the next deadline? ?? Do you want a few heroes to step in when setting realistic goals proves difficult? Having this discussion can remove a lot of frustration within a team. This short video is an excerpt from the webinar Time Management and Workload Management: What's the Difference offered by the work360 foundation.
