Mammoet unveils new land-based crane SK6000 The crane is set for its debut deployment later this year. The SK6000 is expected to revolutionise large-scale construction projects, enabling the assembly of larger components in parallel. Currently undergoing trials at the site, the SK6000 is poised for its inaugural project deployment later this year. Mammoet Global Services director Gavin Kerr said: “This crane is truly a world record feat of engineering, with a production schedule to match. Hundreds of colleagues have been directly involved with its development across the business. “There are very few companies on Earth – if any – that could have brought this crane into reality, and we are immensely proud to be able to do so”. #construction #design #building #engineering #civilengineering #architect #heavyequipment For the full article click the link below: https://lnkd.in/e384X-AS

When it comes to large-scale energy projects, the Badger Coulee Transmission Project is a perfect reminder that innovation is the key to success. Creative engineering solutions, like advanced route optimization and real-time monitoring systems, were important tools in navigating logistical challenges and harsh terrain. The team also implemented cutting-edge construction techniques and materials to improve safety for everyone on site. This project took a lot of careful planning to tackle challenges while making sure the Badger Coulee transmission line could still keep up with the region’s demand for power. #TransmissionProject #GridExpansion #ConstructionChallenges #Innovation

"Is 4D useful on this project type?" One of the most common questions I get asked. Short answer - yes. At Freeform, we're building models and working with teams on : ✅ Rail ✅ Tidal ✅ MMC ✅ Water ✅ Mining ✅ Prisons ✅ Bridges ✅ Utilities ✅ Nuclear ✅ Schools ✅ Airports ✅ Housing ✅ High rise ✅ Highways ✅ Windfarm ✅ Metro-rail ✅ Tunnelling ✅ Residential ✅ Demolition ✅ Heavy civils ✅ Power (grid) ✅ Commercial ✅ Master-plan ✅ Data centres ✅ Deep excavation ✅ Factories / manufacture ... and pretty much every other project type. The process is quick & simple. Bring together : ☑ Context & logistics ☑ Perm & temp design ☑ Schedule / programme ... and work together as a team to plan better and rehearse. #projects #technology #construction

The Winter Road linking Tlicho communities is an engineering feat requiring months of detailed planning and teamwork to construct. A critical aspect of constructing safely is how Tlicho Engineering & Environmental Service (TEES) works on the ice. TEES has begun using ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology to give them precise, real-time data to determine ice thickness and integrity -- to millimeters – to protect crew safety and operate at maximum efficiency to open the road as early as possible. GPR uses radar to measure ice thickness, identify weak spots, and create a detailed picture of the ice and what lies beneath, including: • ice thickness to ensure it’s strong enough for vehicles • cracks, air pockets, or slush to manage before they can cause problems • mapping the terrain below the ice to plan routes over lakes and rivers • monitor ice growth throughout the winter. This technology improves safety, reduces risks, and ensures the environment is protected during construction.

An exciting announcement 📢 tucked away in Malcolm's interview in GE to kick start 2025: The Federation for Piling Specialists (#FPS), the UK body of piling contractors and affiliated members, are putting in place plans to create a data sharing map 🗺️ to enable existing pile foundation, pile testing and ground investigation data to be findable in the UK. This is a significant step forward in enabling more sustainable foundation design and engineering the subsurface. It has been an insightful journey working as part of the FPS Digital Progression Group to reach this decision and I look forward to contributing to the delivery! Link to the article and extract below: https://lnkd.in/e7nYt4hc "Additionally, O’Sullivan’s aim as FPS chair is to advance piling data digitalisation and improve its accessibility, particularly to support the reuse of piles for customers. “One of the key things we’ve agreed with our membership is that we are going to have an access point or a portal, which we can share with our customers and the wider industry to be able to access project information, or at least find out where to get the information,” O’Sullivan says. “If you’ve got the information, you can then reuse the piles in the future or use the information for adjacent projects. The problem we have currently is that historical data for these projects has either been lost, or it’s so difficult to find, or you don’t know who’s done it. So, then it becomes very expensive to reuse piles, because you’ve got to do a lot of checks, and a lot of testing. “We’ve got to start future-proofing the reuse of piles by having the data available and the members committed to it.” " #fps #datasharing #groundengineering #wearearup

Giant tunnelling machines ready for 4.5-mile drive to Euston Our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture (SCS JV) engineers have begun assembling two giant tunnelling machines that will dig the final 4.5 miles of underground high-speed railway – carrying HS2 trains into the heart of London. Weighing an incredible 1,250 tonnes, each of the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will launch from an underground box at one end of the project’s Old Oak Common station. They are expected to take around a year and a half to reach the railway’s final southern terminus at London Euston. Read more: https://bit.ly/3OASXwi HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd | SCSJV, LLC

Ground engineering contractor Van Elle has signed an eight-year partnering agreement with Wood (Transmission & Distribution). The agreement covers ground investigation, design, and construction activities for piling and foundations across several transmission schemes in Scotland, part of Ofgem's accelerated strategic transmission investment (ASTI) program. Subject to performance, the £30m agreement is expected to generate substantial work for Van Elle over the next eight years. Initial projects have already commenced in locations like New Cumnock and Beauly-Loch Buidhe, where ground investigations are underway for 240 towers to be built in 2026-27. Van Elle CEO Mark Cutler noted this is a long-standing partnership, and the company's breadth of capabilities allows it to provide integrated ground, design, and foundation solutions tailored to project needs. The recent acquisition of Albion Drilling will support local delivery of these important commitments, often in remote and challenging locations. Cutler sees this as the first of several anticipated agreements in this growing sector, reinforcing Van Elle's medium-term ambitions. Read more: [https://lnkd.in/e-UtSwZQ] The Construction Index Ltd
