UAE’s Dubai Exhibition Centre set for Dh10bn expansion The expansion is planned to take place across three phases, with the final phase to be completed by 2031. UAE (United Arab Emirates) Dubai vice-president, prime minister, and ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has sanctioned a Dh10bn ($2.72bn) expansion initiative for the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) located at Expo City Dubai. The project is aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and aims to transform the venue into the leading events and exhibition space in the region. The development of the DEC will occur in three phases. By 2026, the first phase will see the centre’s exhibition space increase to 140,000m² from its current 58,000m². The second phase, set for completion by 2028, will further extend the exhibition area to approximately 160,000m² and will include infrastructure improvements such as roads and parking facilities. Philippines’ DPWH finishes two river protection projects in Agusan del Norte These initiatives, with a combined cost of 270.2m pesos ($4.82m), were designed to reduce flood risks along the Aciga and Kalinawan Rivers in Barangay La Paz and Barangay Poblacion 1. One of the projects included the construction of a 390m concrete dyke, extending from Aciga River in Poblacion 1 to Kalinawan River in La Paz, completed at a cost of 144.75m pesos in May 2024. The DPWH has also finished the repair and reconstruction of a 357m road dike along Aciga River, with an investment of 125.45m pesos, in Barangay Poblacion. Georgia-Pacific details plans to convert headquarters into mixed-use tower The updated tower is set to feature more than 400 apartment units on its uppermost floors. Located in Downtown Atlanta, US, the mixed-use redevelopment project is set to be completed in late 2027 and aims to revitalise the area with a combination of residential, commercial, and public spaces. The redevelopment, expected to set a new standard for adaptive reuse in the region, will feature more than 400 apartment units on the tower’s uppermost floors, making them some of the highest residential offerings in the Southeast US. It further includes approximately 35,000ft² for a central plaza, 125,000ft² of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space, and nearly 600,000ft² of Class A office space. Georgia-Pacific president and CEO Christian Fischer said: “If realised, this will be more than just a redevelopment; it has potential to generate economic growth and create mutual benefit for city, local businesses, their employees, Georgia-Pacific employees and our vibrant community. Mammoet unveils new land-based crane SK6000 The crane is set for its debut deployment later this year. The SK6000 is expected to revolutionise large-scale construction projects, enabling the assembly of larger components in parallel. Currently undergoing trials at the site, the SK6000 is poised for its inaugural project deployment later this year. Mammoet Global Services director Gavin Kerr said: “This crane is truly a world record feat of engineering, with a production schedule to match. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) begins $9bn expansion project The transformation of Terminal C, DFW's busiest terminal, is a central element of the expansion project. The initiative aims to revamp terminals, enhance facilities, increase gate numbers, and upgrade connectivity and infrastructure. The transformation of Terminal C, DFW’s busiest terminal, is a central element of the plan. Out of the nearly $9bn, approximately $3bn is allocated to reconstruct and expand the Terminal C, which will see the removal of more than 400 columns, installation of new dynamic glass windows, and a raised roof to create a more open atmosphere. The modernisation will also introduce new retail and dining options, lounges, check-in areas, security checkpoints, and improved restrooms.
