This week, the WFTV team was pleased to announce the launch of it's 2025 WFTV Four Nations Mentoring Scheme 2025. The North of England scheme is supported by both BBC North and Screen Alliance North and led by Mentoring Producer, Helen Bullough. The WFTV Four Nations Mentoring Scheme is designed for mid-career women working in film, television, and creative media, the scheme offers unparalleled opportunities to accelerate careers in an industry where women remain underrepresented in leadership roles. Thirty Indigenous youth from across Queensland recently had a once in a lifetime experience, bonding with the Australian Kangaroos rugby league team during an unforgettable afternoon of team building. The 30 youth were from PCYCs across Bundaberg, Sunshine Coast, Deception Bay, Caboolture, Palm Island, Woorabinda, and Rockhampton, selected for their community commitment and strength of character. In collaboration with PCYC Queensland and Queensland Police Service, this event aimed to foster mentorship, build relationships, and inspire future leaders. These young men were selected through their involvement in PCYC’s youth development programs and for their potential as emerging leaders. Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga shared that the players, currently competing in the Pacific Nations tournament, drew just as much inspiration from the young men as the young men did from them. He highlighted, “The players know who they represent – these boys and their communities. It’s a privilege to spend time with impressive young people like this and see what the Kangaroos jersey means to them.” The team building event was not just about sports; it was about building new friendships and connections. The Kangaroos embody Australian values like mateship, and the day truly reflected that spirit. PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz emphasised the impact of such interactions, stating, “They, like all young men, really benefit from having meaningful interactions with positive role models. Spending time with footy legends they’ve only seen before on TV is something they will always remember.” We are deeply grateful to the Kangaroos for their time and the positive influence they imparted on these young people. As the year comes to a close and we reflect on the impact we've made, we are excited to share the inspiring moments from the 6th You(th) Lead Conference, hosted by our community partner, the Pinball Foundation. Our partnership with PCF aligns with our Labour Market Intervention Strategy (LMIS), aimed at addressing systemic barriers and creating pathways for Black, equity-denied, and justice-involved youth to access educational and career opportunities. At the conference, our post-secondary students and alumni, through speed mentorship sessions, networked with industry leaders and executives from various sectors and industries, gaining valuable career advice and insights. It was empowering to see our current students interact with alumni, whose success stories serve as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of education and the expanded opportunities provided by #YAAACE.
