'Global citizenship' is easier said than done, and Taejae University YMCA in Seoul, Korea has just conducted a successful study on global citizenship education, reflecting learnings from Yutori education in Japan. One key Yutori element of emphasising young children's individuality is to recognise others' individuality too: that's our collective, global humanity.

Macedonia encourages society and education to set up new projects to discover the inevitable versatility of our multicultural society by and for our young co-citizens. Curiosity and spontaneous contact with 'the Other' could well be the engines of tolerance, understanding and social cohesion! At the same time, this may boost one's own cultural identity, norms and values, but it may also tackle the sensitivities of these people in our society who have different stories and backgrounds. Hopefully these projects may recur in the news channels with open and good results! https://lnkd.in/e-egUEW6

Interculturality. Some authors highlight its dimension of deep, mutual engagement and learning, emphasizing the need for an active and respectful exchange of cultural perspectives (Ippolito, 2007; Gubem 2023) Others focus on the challenges of power imbalances and the critical interrogation of cultural norms and assumptions that interculturality must address to foster genuine understanding and equity (Ghazarian & Youhne, 2015; Dietz, 2017).(Labraña, et al., forthcoming). Interculturality in the Chilean university focus has been strongly influenced by critical interculturality and the promotion of indigenous peoples rights. Hence has taken a unique and specific approach, as to what interculturality may mean for institutions located differently, with a different historical past (Labraña, et al., forthcoming). . Hence, to I would like to ask my colleagues working in higher education institutions in different countries, cities and with diverse geographical realities: How does your institution define interculturality? What does interculturality mean to you in your context? How do/can you/we connect interculturality with internationalization?

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION… Recent steps backward in global attitudes to multiculturalism, inclusion and democracy are hopefully only a temporary reaction to change, as those who have traditionally held power relinquish a little of it to create a balanced world. We need to remain focused on what kind of world we want - a peaceful and compassionate one for all of humanity and for all the species we share this planet with. I am reminded that sometimes we have to speak up - and that can take courage as it can make you a target. A target alone is vulnerable but many voices together are stronger. Let’s all speak up against the current multiculturalism backlash and keep the world moving forward.

How 21K Promotes Global Citizenship Education? In order to build awareness and become part of the global community, students need to learn more about the outside world instead of solely relying on bookish knowledge. They also need to go through multiple digital resources as well as quality evaluation which will help them learn the specific skill sets they need in order to reach their respective goals. All of its efforts are aimed to contribute to the awareness of global citizenship education. https://lnkd.in/gpcuU9q3

Educational and cultural exchange is important more than ever. We at Fulbright Philippines (Philippine-American Educational Foundation) remain committed to this endeavor. To quote Senator #Fulbright: "The essence of intercultural education is the acquisition of empathy-the ability to see the world as others see it, and to allow for the possibility that others may see something we have failed to see, or may see it more accurately. The simple purpose of the exchange program...is to erode the culturally rooted mistrust that sets nations against one another. The exchange program is not a panacea but an avenue of hope." And hope is what always remains.

As a global educator and advocate for democratic citizenship education, I'm excited to share insights from South Korea's approach to fostering civic engagement and global citizenship: Key takeaways from South Korea's curriculum: 1. Integrating democratic values across subjects like Ethics and Social Studies 2. Emphasizing both local civic participation and global citizenship 3. Balancing rights and responsibilities of citizens 4. Using interactive methods like role-playing, debates, and community projects What impresses me most is the focus on practical application - from creating student autonomy regulations to analyzing real policy processes. This hands-on approach helps students develop critical thinking and active citizenship skills. For a deeper dive into global citizenship education, I am preparing a video on this topic! How does your country approach civic education? What elements do you think are most crucial for developing engaged citizens in today's interconnected world? #DemocraticEducation #GlobalCitizenship #CivicEngagement #21stCenturySkills

The well-being of teachers in multicultural classrooms is often influenced by the perception of cultural diversity as a source of vulnerability. This perception leads many teachers to view multiculturalism primarily as an element of difficulty and challenge in their daily work. To best deal with the complexities of multicultural classrooms, it is essential to provide teachers with specific training. This training should first of all enable them to situate their knowledge, i.e. to understand and recognise the context and influences of their knowledge. Furthermore, teachers should be able to critically reflect on their own cultural and colonial heritage. This approach enables them to develop a greater awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity, thus facilitating more effective and inclusive management of multicultural classrooms. If you want to know more, read Alga, M. L. (2023). Classroom-world. Practices to decolonize the university training of professionals in educational and care work. 🌍 What does it mean to be a global citizen? 🌍 The concept of global citizenship is as diverse as the world itself. It encompasses a sense of belonging to a broader community and a commitment to making a positive impact on a global scale. As a member of the global village, I believe that universities have a crucial role in fostering this sense of global responsibility among students. That guided us to launch the MU Global Citizenship Programme for the 2023/24 academic year for HKMU students. This initiative aims to immerse students in the 17 SDGs and cultivate a deep understanding of global issues. One of the highlights of this programme was an enriching trip to Sri Lanka, where I had the privilege of leading a group of young talents. During this journey, our students engaged with local families, visited community facilities, and designed interactive games for local youth. These activities were not just about fun; they were given the chance to promote cultural exchange, and make a meaningful impact on the community. I'm thrilled to share that our tour served over 120 local youths from kindergartens, primary schools, and village schools. It is a wonderful experience to witness our students rise to the challenge, adapt to local life, and bring their passion and energy to the local community. Check out this video captured by one of our team members, Miss Hannah Wong. We hope it gives you a glimpse into our incredible journey. Enjoy! 🌟 https://lnkd.in/g8bRgYCT #GlobalCitizen #SustainableDevelopment #MUGlobalCitizenship #CulturalExchange #HKMU #SAO #PositiveImpact #YouthEmpowerment #GlobalVillage #SriLankaTour #StudentLeadership #CommunityEngagement
