By COP 30, there is a need to have in place voluntary standards with clear and consistent target setting, accounting and disclosure requirements that delineate legitimate actions within, around and beyond value chains. Policies are needed that incentivize landowners and producers to align their investments and practices with government and private sector targets and finance. Beyond that, there is a need for proactive supplier engagement to propel climate adaptation and resilience at the producer level, and to accelerate global value chain transparency. Finally, financial services and products are needed that support producers in their transition to Net Zero, especially when commodity prices are not favourable. As a key moment on the road to COP 30, Climate Week NYC 2024 provides an opportunity to push this agenda forward. Therefore, Conservation International, Environmental Defense Fund, IETA, the International Platform for Insetting (IPI), Proforest, The Nature Conservancy, Value Change Initiative and WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, are calling for policymakers, companies and funders to focus on meaningful, grounded engagement that remains focused on impact rather than interest, to Climate Week NYC and beyond. By refocusing the narrative, the group aims to show how ambitious corporate climate targets can also generate positive impacts on the ground: https://lnkd.in/eWQMSYUE #ClimateWeekNYC #NewYorkClimateWeek #CoP30 #Climate #FLAG #NetZero #engagement #impact #agriculturalcommodities

Read Article 6 negotiator, Kristin Qui's powerful dispatch from #COP29 on why getting the new #Article6 rules right has been so critical for channeling finance while also delivering benefits to local communities, like those from her home of Trinidad and Tobago: “Many developing countries and small island states like mine are already facing the harsh realities of unchecked climate change. That’s why it has been so important for us to develop a new system under carbon markets that paves the way for more ambitious goals.” https://shorturl.at/feSYy #carbonmarkets #cop29 #climatefinance

🌍 As the world prepares for #COP29, the Integrity Council is committed to raising the standard for international carbon markets. In our latest blog, we highlight why high-integrity carbon credits are vital to accelerating climate action and meeting the Paris Agreement’s targets. 💬 Our Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) have set the first independent global standard for high-quality verified carbon credits, ensuring that they deliver genuine, measurable, and lasting impacts. They help to unlock private finance to the local level that's needed to scale real climate solutions, especially in regions on the front lines of the #ClimateCrisis. 🌱 From supporting #SustainableDevelopment and #biodiversity protection to promoting #Indigenous stewardship of critical ecosystems, high-integrity carbon markets offer a pathway to impactful, inclusive climate action. Learn more about our role and how we stand ready to lead this effort at COP29 and beyond: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eyFHKSrV The stakes are high, and the time to act is now. #COP29 #ClimateAction #CarbonMarkets #ClimateFinance #IntegrityCouncil #Biodiversity #IndigenousRights #NetZero

Join our NewClimate expert Sybrig Smit tomorrow (5 June) at the UN Climate Change Conference (SB60) in Bonn ⤵ The Net Zero Tracker is co-hosting an event alongside CDP, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), Climate Chance, InfluenceMap at the Bonn Climate Change Conference, examining the role of the private sector in bolstering ambitious and credible NDCs on the road to #COP30. Indeed, as the countdown to ‘NDCs 3.0’ draws closer, countries are re-evaluating their climate commitments and preparing to submit new targets by early 2025. The private sector must play a pivotal role in both delivering emissions reductions and, in turn, assuring bolder climate commitments from national governments. The latest analysis from InfluenceMap and the Net Zero Tracker finds that, despite the explosion in corporate climate commitments, the private sector is still falling short in their climate commitments across all metrics of integrity, implementation and advocacy. This event will delve into the critical role of companies in contributing to NDCs, and will shed light on the importance of frameworks such as UN's Expert Group’s recommendations, and standardisation bodies such as the ISO - International Organization for Standardization Net Zero Standard. "...carbon capture and storage, geo-engineering, carbon offsets, carbon credits, biodiversity credits, and other market-based schemes are false solutions that perpetuate climate chaos, Indigenous rights violations, and injustice. The gaveling of Article 6 at COP29 is a giant step backward and will pave the way for the furtherance of carbon markets. These schemes allow polluters to continue business as usual, all while delaying the real action we so urgently need. We need community-led solutions to lead the way and for pollution to be stopped at the source." 🌍 Calling all climate champions! 🌎 Did you know that the Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme decision-making body of the UNFCCC? As representatives from countries around the world gather annually to address climate change, they have the power to shape the future of our planet. 🌿 The COP is not just any conference, it is a crucial event where key objectives are set and agreements are made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate climate impacts, and address global climate issues. This is where real action for a sustainable future happens. 🌱 The COP has four main objectives: reviewing implementation, setting targets and agreements, monitoring progress, and adopting decisions. From the Paris Agreement to ongoing efforts to improve and enforce climate action plans, the decisions made at COP have a direct impact on the health of our planet. 🌍 Let's all join hands and work towards a greener, more sustainable future. As professionals, it is our responsibility to stay informed and take action towards climate change. Let's make our voices heard and push for more ambitious and effective climate policies at the COP. #COP #UNFCCC #ClimateAction 🌎🌿🌱

Natacha's blog on #COP29: Progress on Net Zero: A Global Overview Since the Paris Agreement, climate policies are evolving worldwide, but companies and investors striving for net zero find them lacking. The Taskforce on Net Zero Policy's report from COP29 in Baku evaluates G20 countries on key areas like disclosure and transition planning. While policies recognize the urgency, they often fall short of the needed ambition. Yet, there's hope: increased climate disclosures, green taxonomies development, and transition planning efforts are on the rise. A crucial read for those aligning with public climate advocacy!
