Boston is facing a major challenge in regards to property tax collection as downtown commercial property values are declining. Much of this issue is spurred by vacant office space as many people continue to work from home. What is the solution to this problem? Mayor Michelle Wu proposes to raise property tax rates on these commercial properties, although this idea would only create more issues and increase the pressure on building owners. This would not be her first time being painfully out of touch with reality. Interestingly though this does create ample opportunity for creative investors and savvy developers.
