The yachting industry is over-saturated with “green” crew, many with no translatable skills or do not know how to translate their qualifications in order to be seen as a good candidate. This bias leads the majority of crew agents/recruiters to ignore and dismiss them. What percentage of those you ignore will be future HODs? Engaging with in-coming crew determines whether they will engage with you when they need to hire. Ignore them, and they will remember your antipathy. The future of your business will be based on your level of emotional intelligence when hiring.

🌊 What Makes a Great Yacht Recruiter? 🛥️ As the yachting season is finally underway, we recruiters can emerge from the chaos and catch our breath—amid last-minute requests and busy moments! I've been reflecting on what makes a great recruiter. Excellent communication, a well-nurtured network, and thorough vetting are essential, but what about the subtle nuances that set us apart? Certainly, passion and genuine enthusiasm for yachting fuel connections, as they resonate well with clients and build confidence in our drive to make the perfect match. Industry expertise and knowledge are crucial. I believe that my on-board experience in both the interior and on deck has benefited me enormously in my ability to place the right crew for the right role. When interviewing candidates, my experience enables me to ask poignant questions drawn from my understanding of what it takes to excel across departments. Personality plays a crucial role in our ability to form connections with clients and crew, becoming trusted partners and confidants. A true skill is reading clients well and mirroring their communication style without losing one's true self. Of course professionalism and discretion are vital. Staying current with trends, regulations, and yacht operations ensures we uphold the latest standards, guiding clients confidently. I am curious to know what do you think makes you a good recruiter? #YachtRecruitment #YachtingIndustry #MaritimeProfessionals #CrewPlacement #LuxuryYachting

💚 "Greenies" looking to recruiters to secure their first job—this is for you... I’ve been receiving a lot of CVs from new crew looking for their first role on a yacht. I love the eagerness and the networking—it’s a fantastic way to start! However, here are a few important reminders: 1. It can be difficult to get your first job through a recruiter unless you offer a special skill. Recruiters are typically hired by yachts to find crew with a certain level of yacht experience or background. If boats are looking for "green" crew, it’s often easier and more cost-effective for them to find someone in the area and trial them if necessary. This is why dockwalking, daywork, and networking are essential. 2. Utilize recruiters to get valuable feedback on your CV and help you stand out, so when you do have a chance at a role, both your CV and interview skills shine. If you have any questions about this, feel free to reach out. Remember—be patient and realistic. The first job can take time, and it might not be your dream yacht or destination right away. Take those opportunities to get your foot in the door. #GreenCrew #YachtLife #CrewTips #YachtCrewAdvice #CVTips #YachtingCareer #Dockwalking #CrewRecruitment #NewToYachting #YachtieLife #YachtieTips #YachtJobs #YachtCV

Maximize your Crew Hiring - Effective Reference Checks As a yacht captain or head of department, hiring the right crew is important. Here are some strategies to ensure your reference checks are thorough: 1. Verify Details: Confirm the candidate’s job title, responsibilities, and duration of employment. (I can't even begin to tell you how many crew add on extra time to their CV.) 2. Speak to Multiple References: Get a well-rounded view by contacting several references, including HOD and colleagues. (Don't go with only one. One reference is not a clear indicator. In the past, I have had one reference tell me how horrible the candidate was, but when I checked out the other 4, they were singing the candidate's praises. One bad reference could mean they have a personal conflict with the person.) 3. Ask Open-Ended Questions: Encourage detailed responses to gain deeper insights. (When it's just yes/no, you can't really get a good feel.) 4. Prepare Questions in Advance: Focus them on the performance, reliability, and teamwork of the candidate. (Final question: Would you work with or hire them again?) #YachtCrew #CrewRecruitment #ReferenceChecks #YachtLife #Leadership #HiringTips #Maritime #YachtingIndustry #YachtManagement #CrewManagement #Recruitment #YachtCaptain #YachtJobs

Private Yacht vs Charter Yacht: Which is Better for You? Did you now only 30% of yachts charter? I have recently spoke with a number of candidates who have turned down amazing opportunities because they are looking to work on a charter yacht however there are many benefits for both types of yacht. Choosing between a private and charter yacht ultimately depends on what you want from your yachting career. If stability, a fixed schedule, and building long-term relationships sound appealing, then a private yacht might be a perfect fit. On the other hand, if you’re excited by the prospect of meeting new people, earning tips, and experiencing an ever-changing work environment, a charter yacht could offer a more rewarding experience. Both private and charter yachts offer incredible opportunities to see the world, develop your skills, and earn a great living. Check out our latest blog to find out more 😊 https://lnkd.in/eJWSWfRV #superyachts #privateyacht #charteryacht

Navigating the yachting industry as a couple can be both exciting and challenging. From finding compatible positions to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, there are various factors to consider. However, with patience, resilience, and effective communication, couples can successfully pursue careers together on board. Here are some tips and insights from experienced couples in the industry to help guide your journey...
🛥️ The Truth Behind Couples Positions in Yachting... Finding a couple's position on a yacht can be a rewarding yet challenging endeavour. Many couples wonder if it's easy to secure such roles and how long it typically takes to find them. With the Mediterranean season approaching, couples are actively seeking opportunities together in the yachting industry. In reality, the process of finding work as a couple varies. Sometimes, it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Other times, it requires persistence and the right attitude. While there are a few "couple-friendly" jobs available, the most common route is for each individual to apply separately. This approach opens up more opportunities and allows individuals to establish relationships with yacht crews, potentially leading to opportunities for their partners down the line. Alternatively, couples can choose to pursue jobs together and be upfront about their intentions during interviews. While this approach may take longer, it can lead to greater job satisfaction in the long run. Setting a timeframe for finding a couples position and reassessing plans if necessary can also help manage these expectations. Ultimately, whether working together as a couple is successful depends on various factors. While it offers the benefit of companionship and shared experiences, it also comes with its own set of challenges. Communication, compromise, and maintaining boundaries are crucial for navigating the dynamics of working and living together onboard. For couples considering working together on yachts, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons and consider whether it aligns with their individual and collective goals. While it may not be the right fit for everyone, for those who are committed and determined, it can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. 📸 @erinzaayman #yachtcrewlife #yachtcrewrecruitment #yachtcrewjobs #yachtcrewtraining #yachtinglifestyle #crewlife #yachtcrew #deckhand #superyachtcrew #yachties

Attention Yacht Crew - Let me stress this again! 🗣 Check that the contact information for your reference is current!!! Phone number, email, Whatsapp - all of it! When you are applying for a new role, use this opportunity to also check in with your references. Why?!? 1. So that Captains, HOD's, and Recruiters can easily contact them and offer you a job. 🎉 2. Giving your referee a heads-up is not only polite but they can be prepared. For instance, maybe they will be on holiday, or on charter and not have the availability they typically have. 3. This is a great way to get the word back out there that you are looking again. Who better to inform than those who know you and have worked with you. Maybe they are looking to hire again, or they know someone who is. Point is - Check the contact information of your referees. That's all. Have a great weekend. ☀ 🛥 🏖
