Lots of trainee accountants have recently received exam results. Congratulations if you have passed your exams and are now qualified or are now a step further along your path to being qualified. To those that have failed an exam, here are a few tips for dusting yourself off and continuing on your journey to successfully becoming a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Certified Accountant or Chartered Management Accountant. Working full time and trying to pass up to c16 exams is a challenge. If you are also trying to do this whilst being a carer, parent or other responsibilities it is even more of a challenge. Here are a few tips for retakes: ⭐️ plan the amount of time that you have available for study ⭐️ study at the best time for you, whether before work, after work, weekends or book study leave or holiday off from work ⭐️ take your retake at the next sitting so that you don’t risk the syllabus changing and still remember a lot of the content ⭐️ book a revision course that includes exam technique ⭐️ work out the best way of learning for you, how do you absorb information quickest ⭐️ practice by taking as many mock exams and or past papers as possible ⭐️ get your mock papers marked so that you can see where your knowledge gaps are ⭐️ don’t kick yourself, almost everyone fails an exam at some point in their life, what is important is that you don’t give up and try to assess why you failed so that you pass next time, whether it is due to you not putting in enough time, find a certain area tricky or managed exam time poorly ⭐️ give yourself breaks during study, whether it is watching your favourite TV programme, going for a walk, having dinner with your family ⭐️ write down the reasons why you want to become an accountant so that you can motivate yourself ⭐️ give yourself rewards along the way and definitely a big reward once you qualify, I bought myself my first new car once I qualified ⭐️ try to take several exams together when you have time, so that you can pass more quickly. Further to my comments on below post, I would also say that there is a need for total overhaul of the regulations on training organisations, to recognise more corporate entities, which have appropriate arrangements of training in internal audit, taxation, risk management, financial management and reporting. CA profession should not be confined largely to external audit. I guess large number of CAs upto 80% do not stay in the professional firms after qualification, and it is same for other jurisdications as well. For instance, I serve as member of the board of directors of Bank of Khyber, where we have significant size of internal audit & finance functions that can easily serve as robust training platforms for several CA students training in these disciplines, but the bank is not recognised as training organisation because we do not have certain number of CAs. As a responsible senior Chartered Accountant, I can confirm that our internal audit, which comprises of several professionals, can be an excellent training place for students. There is no reason why ICAP can not address these matters promptly, become more agile, open and proactive institution embracing the new realities. https://lnkd.in/dfFzDr5u

The Hidden Truth About Pursuing ACCA, You'll always hear people say 'Just Focus on passing the exams'. Ever wondered why? No, They'll never tell you the reason behind it. ACCA students truly understand what it takes to prepare for exams every 3 months, Why? It becomes a do-or-die situation for us. Sad thing is that all of us want to land in the Big 4, but only a few of us are inducted every year. Not everyone is given a chance. As an ACCA Finalist (11/13) with a National Distinction, I know the struggle behind passing the exams. But, they never tell you what I am about to tell you. Despite excelling in your exams ( or passing them ), Will not help you land youe dream job! You need to understand this. You have to stand out from the crowd. How? By working on your SOFT SKILLS, and Building a social network. Remember “ Your Network is your Net Worth” ACCA is all about passing the exams, But in reality, if you want to build your career around Accounting and Finance, You need to reach your utmost potential! Guess what? That is not possible for us. Why? We are stuck in a rat race where everyone is too focused on passing the exams, and they'd rather spend time studying than working on their communication skills. Trust me, I get it! I've been there too. However, I was fortunate enough to understand the importance of developing Soft Skills, And decided to build a network across different cities, and universities. Here I am, After 4 years of building a social circle of people my age with different fields, and degrees working towards the same goal. BUILDING NETWORK I have worked with organizations, and have done multiple roles since then ( Not even related to my field ) Not only that, I sit down with people who are twice my age and are one of the most successful people. As an ACCA student, You must be thinking how was it even possible to balance exam timelines, and build a network? It was not easy, I had to work on myself, Quite A LOT! People who knew me, Knew how difficult it was. They have seen my entire journey. But I never made an excuse. Gradually, all the dots got connected. Want my advice? - Don't limit yourself to book knowledge - Reach out to people, and connect with them - Apply for Internships - Understand the importance of good communication ( PS: I took the internship route ) ACCA Results are disclosed today, Congratulations to those who have passed, Those who couldn't, Don't Give Up!
