On this #internationalwomensday I’m not messing around 💪 ❌ No messages telling us we’re kick@$$. We know it and wish it didn’t require a special day to honor that. ❌ No messages telling us to be strong (or to raise strong women). Dang, aren’t we that already? ❌ No messages telling us we can be both powerful and feminine. We can be whatever we want. We don’t need your permission. ❌ No messages telling us to not let others hold us back. Why is that our responsibility? ❌ No messages about having and doing it all. Because that’s simply not reality. And who wants to do it all anyway? ❌ No messages about empowering women. We have personal agency. How about you honor that. Instead, I want to challenge us all… ✨ Let’s not underestimate women! We are capable of far more than you give us credit for, and more than we even recognize in ourselves and each other. ✨ Let’s not put women in a box! Don’t “should” her. Let each woman be her authentic self. She’s not too much. She doesn’t need to change to fit your expectations. She’s exactly who she’s meant to be. ✨ Let’s not stand in her way! Open the door. What is the most empowering piece of advice you’ve ever received, and how has it shaped your journey? - My late mother once told me, 'Strength lies in vulnerability.' This advice has shaped my journey by teaching me that being strong doesn't mean hiding my emotions or pretending to be invulnerable. Instead, it's about embracing my authenticity and allowing myself to feel and express my emotions. Through vulnerability, I've connected with others, found resilience, and discovered my true strength. 2. If you could have a superpower to empower other women, what would it be?- If I could empower other women with a superpower, it would be the ability to amplify their voices. Imagine if every woman's voice carried across boundaries, cultures and generations! With this power, we could advocate for change, challenge stereotypes and uplift one another. 3. Who is a woman who inspires you, and why? - One woman who inspires me greatly is my Mother. Her unwavering commitment to serving God, ministering about God, educating and mentoring young women, even in the face of adversity, is and will always be remarkable to me. Her courage and resilience remind me that advocating for what's right is worth any sacrifice and that you should always be a giver but do not allow yourself to be used. 4. What advice would you give to young girls aspiring to achieve their dreams? - To young girls aspiring to achieve their dreams, I'd say: Believe in yourself, even when others doubt you and always go for what you want. Surround yourself with supportive people and those who want to see you make it in life. It's that time of year again... companies are releasing their gender equity reports, every second bus stop you pass has a broad smiling woman with a snazzy slogan about how progressive their company is and of course, the the big guns... International women's Day themed cupcakes 🧁 And you're left thinking: 🙄 Shoot how did this sneak up... again? 🙄 What is with this annual amnesia? 🙄 Why don't I feel a sense of anticipation and excitement leading up to this day?  Turns out it takes a little more than some good stats and sweet frosting to feel a sense of connection. You don't love Christmas for the Pavlova after all (although it is high on the list). You love a day or a celebration because of the narrative that surrounds it - the memories, the feelings it evokes. It means something.
