"*ANNOUCEMENT* Today we mark our fifth anniversary by launching our biggest campaign yet - Reimagining Parks. Our five years of research and work mean we estimate that a shocking 1 in 3 local people cannot access parks. We get things done. So we have set ourselves a huge ambition for everyone in Bristol and Bath to have a park that is accessible to them within a ten-minute reach of where they live, work or study. Your Park will focus on measures to make local parks physically accessible for #Disabled people and their #carers, redesigned with the safety and enjoyment of #women and girls in mind, and used to support people struggling with their #mentalhealth. Charlee Bennett, our CEO says: “Our Reimagining Parks campaign is not just changing landscapes, it’s fostering inclusivity, safety and wellbeing. This is a huge campaign for a growing charity like ours to take on, but through our work with local communities over the last five years, we are absolutely clear on what needs to be done and we are determined to start delivering the changes now.” Find out more here: https://buff.ly/3JSD1mL. ☑️ Get behind the 200,000 people with no park access by donating, liking and sharing our posts. #ReimaginingParks #Community #Health #AccessibleParks"

Did you know that it’s Mental Health Awareness Week? Here at Mid Surrey Community Fridges we are very keen to spread the word about the fun and sense of belonging and purpose you get by volunteering for a cause you believe in. We’ve been saving good surplus food from landfill since 2017, distributing it to the local community, helping people in food poverty and the environment at the same time. We’re currently saving about 7 tonnes of food a week from going to waste, collecting it from supermarkets, local businesses and food charities, redistributing the food to 14 hubs in the local area. And we couldn’t do it without our band of over 100 volunteers, who are the lifeblood of our organisation but who also get a huge amount out of serving the local community and protecting the environment. So why encourage your employees to volunteer? Because it’s good for their mental health and good for your business. But don’t take our word for it; here are some industry statistics: - 80% of employees say that group volunteering strengthens their relationships with their colleagues. - 87% of employees who volunteered through their companies noted an improved perception of their employers. - Employee turnover drops by an average of 57% when employees are deeply connected to their companies’ volunteering efforts Follow this link for these and more statistics about corporate volunteering: https://lnkd.in/eGaNM4dd And check out how you could help @Mid Surrey Community Fridges with your voluntary support: https://lnkd.in/eFRP_aFu Thank you. #Community #Volunteering #MentalHealth #FoodForThought Tony White Michaela Afford Michelle Carvell Simon Edmands Ian Giles

We’re proud to revisit Global Generation an incredible educational charity we visited last year with Katie from VegTrug 🌿 They work with children, young people, and communities across Camden, Islington, and Southwark to turn underused urban spaces into thriving green havens. This week, we’re exploring how Garden on a Roll can partner with them on their upcoming projects to support greener, more sustainable spaces for all. 🌱 #GardenOnARoll #GlobalGeneration #SustainableGardening #CommunityProjects #Partnerships #UrbanGreening

It's difficult to put into words the incredible impact that volunteering makes. It can allow you to connect with your community and even the smallest act of giving back can make a real difference to the lives of people, animals, environment and organisations in need. This belief has run strong in our family for years. Our parents were part of the Rural Fire Brigade in Northern NSW. My sister Angela Taylor volunteers with the SES and she will literally be out there in the middle of natural disasters helping people or trekking through bushland participating in missing people searches. She has also supported Orange Sky which is a laundry service for the Homeless and these guys had a massive impact also during the flooding disasters across SEQ and NSW. We have volunteered with local Wildlife Rescue where we would be on call to help injured native animals of an evening. And more recently, my daughter and I volunteer with a Vinnie's youth program that seeks to help, guide and support local kids. I have also been incredibly inspired by other industry colleagues who have put aside their own time to give back to their community over the years. The generosity of our industry in volunteering time, trucks, warehouses and resources during crisis is outstanding. National Volunteer Week runs from 20th - 26th May and this years theme is Something For Everyone - meaning that there are so many different ways that people can look to give back to their community - no matter how big or small. Kids sport, community events, charity fundraisers, beach clean ups, homeless services - you name it, volunteers are vital to their success. People who are interested in looking for volunteer opportunities in their local area can check on a platform www.govolunteer.com.au. The need is enormous and immediate and to be honest - incredibly rewarding! Many people even doing a little bit - can have an enormous impact. Business leaders its a reminder to also consider what can you do within your organisation to support staff who volunteer? There are some great company's that I have seen that actively encourage their staff in their volunteering efforts both individually and as part of a corporate act. It reinforces their commitment to their local community and also fosters a greater sense of belonging within the organisation itself. #NationalVolunteerWeek #HelpingOthers #GivingBack #Volunteering #VolunteersAreAmazing #CorporateVolunteering #StartWhereYouAreUseWhatYouHaveDoWhatYouCan

Three things we hotly debated in the kitchen during my recent volunteering stint at The Choir with No Name : 🤔 Why do people put butter in their baked beans? What can we do to help them? 🥪 Are you supposed to butter the bread when they are making tuna mayo sandwiches? 🧈 If you are making beans on toast, should you butter toast? One thing that was not debated: 🥧 Homity Pie is delicious (here is the recipe – thank me later) https://lnkd.in/d3vb3P7N Choir with No Name is based at St Martins Church in The Bullring. They provide an opportunity for people have experienced homelessness to come together and sing, perform and enjoy a hot meal served by volunteers. Thank you to Sharon Blackwell for organising this as part of Gowling WLG Responsible Business Strategy, and to the fabulous team at Choir with No Name. If you are a corporate organisation that provides volunteering opportunities to your staff, did you know that this generates around £16/hour of social value benefit to the local community? #WestMidlands #CharityWork #Volunteering #Choir #CorporatePartnership #SkilledVolunteering #SocialValue #LocalValue

Let's take a look at what our customers have been launching recently... 📍Covent Garden Conservation Area Audit: Everyone who lives around, works in or visits Covent Garden is welcome to take part in this project. The documents that the City of Westminster produces will outline the key characteristics of the area and will provide guidance on how Covent Garden should be managed, preserved and enhanced. 🔗https://hubs.ly/Q02Fym2z0 📍Local Places for Nature Carmarthenshire: Carmarthenshire County Council alongside a whole host of other organisations are working to protect and improve the local natural environment. This project contains a clean map for the whole of Carmarthenshire and one large survey that is asking people to share green places that are significant to them. The site is also available in both English and Welsh. 🔗https://hubs.ly/Q02Fym930 📍What's it like to live in Houlton?: This is the newest phase of the Quality of Life Foundation's post-occupancy project in Houlton.
