Safeguarding Week 2024. The goal of safeguarding is to create and maintain a safe environment that is child-focused and community driven. Everyone has a role to play in safeguarding and through regular training a culture where safeguarding concerns are taken seriously, reported, and addressed is promoted and maintained. #Safeguarding #AppleboughEducation #Teaching
Here at Applebough Education🍏 we are dedicated to showcasing the importance of safeguarding in schools. Every child has the right to protection from harm. All organisations that work with children should have safeguarding policies and procedures in place to help them keep children safe. Setting up and following good safeguarding policies and procedures means children are safe from risk. All our candidates at Applebough have certified safeguarding training level 1 or above, which is refreshed annually, in order to keep updated with new regulations and information.🏫 #UKTeaching #Teacher #Recruitment #Education #PrimaryEducation #SecondaryEducation #Schools #Safeguarding #DSL #HeadTeacher #Birmingham #Coventry #Sandwell #Dudley

The government publishes an annual safeguarding report into serious case reviews in around January every year. Schools are inspected every 4-6 years on average. As part of this, they get a sentence stating 'safeguarding is effective'. This is no way adequate enough for the amount of work and dedication that goes into 'effective' safeguarding practices that can save children's lives. I believe safeguarding in schools, as well as local authorities, should be inspected annually by people with expertise in the area. It should be separated from Ofsted inspections. As part of the 'Beyond Ofsted' report, we argued that safeguarding is too important to be narrowed down to one sentence every few years. https://lnkd.in/eHYc2bV8 https://lnkd.in/eCVMqP3e #safeguarding #effectivepractice #childcentrededucation #childrenfirst

I am delighted to share that I have completed a Child Safeguarding Training with UNICEF. These are my three key takeaways from the training: 1. Child safeguarding refers to the measures taken to protect all children from any type of harm and you are responsible to report any child safeguarding concern to the appropriate authorities. 2. All children, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances, have the right to be protected, nurtured, and free from all forms of harm. 3. Harm on children includes: physical violence, sexual violence, exploitation and abuse, emotional and verbal abuse, economic exploitation, neglect, harmful practices and privacy violations. Finally, Child safeguarding is my responsibility!

Story so far part 2… Here are some key takeaways from our Safeguarding Training at Peace Shapers: ✅Assumptions can be deadly when it comes to safeguarding children. Always prioritize a thorough and informed approach. ✅The impact of abuse on a child is lasting and can have long-term effects on their well-being and development. ✅If you work with children, safeguarding is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. It's crucial to prioritize their safety and well-being in all aspects of your work. Beyond being a firm advocate forQuality education, NOW more that ever I strongly believe Safe education is equally as important as Quality Education. Environment matters a lot and for children it is equally important that they are able receive that quality education not just in a conducive environment but a SAFE one. Thank you, Peace Shapers, for the valuable training and for emphasizing the importance of safeguarding in creating a safer environment for all. #SafeguardingMatters #ChildProtection #PeaceShapers"

As a parent, discussions about remaining safe online with my child was something I actively cultivated. As a school leader over the past 10+ years, managing incidents that occur with students being online has been both complex and challenging. Navigating how we keep our children safe online is an issue that is important to many in school communities. This upcoming workshop, GUIDING KIDS TO BE SAFE ONLINE, is one for both #educators and #parents. This no-nonsense approach by a former detective and online safety specialist is sure to both challenge and inform. https://lnkd.in/gArJu9nk #montessori #onlinesafety #childsafety

Thank you for sharing this important update. It's encouraging to see the Department for Education (DfE) taking proactive steps towards enhancing safeguarding practices in schools and colleges. The opportunity for stakeholders to contribute their insights and experiences through the 12-week "call for evidence" is crucial for informing the development of updated guidance. With the evolving landscape of education and child welfare, it is imperative that policies and practices reflect the latest knowledge and best practices. I hope this initiative leads to meaningful revisions in the 'keeping children safe in education' guidance, ultimately enhancing the safety and well-being of all children and young people in educational settings. I will make sure to spread awareness about the call for evidence, encouraging participation from relevant stakeholders before the deadline on 20th June. Thank you again for sharing this update. #MTICBIAI #MyTraumaIsChronicButIAmIconic #DfE #SafeguardingInEducation #CallForEvidence #ChildSafety #SchoolsAndColleges #GuidanceRevision #EducationalPolicy #ChildWelfare #StakeholderInput #BestPractices #EducationalSettings #KeepingChildrenSafe #PolicyDevelopment #EvidenceBasedPractice #YouthProtection
DfE has launched a 12-week "call for evidence" on safeguarding practice development and direction in schools and colleges. This will inform the new version of the 'keeping children safe in education' guidance which is due in 2025 (although some technical revisions will be published in September 2024). The call for evidence closes on 20 June.

As we mark the UK’s Safeguarding Awareness Week, it’s a great time to highlight what this is all about, especially for our overseas teachers! 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸?
