Calling all CNM grads - if you can make it, I hope to see you at the department homecoming event this Friday (link below)! Do join us to plug in! I remember the first time I felt like I was a part of something larger than myself - it was my days as a Girl Guide, when I first learned this idea that "Once a Guide, Always a Guide" - it was about how the shared values we learned in guiding would always be part of our identities and way of being. What does it mean to be an alumni for the department? I think and hope it means two things: 1. That the department has shaped and will continue to shape your professional and personal development; 2. You'll be willing to share your experiences with the department and others (young and younger). And once a year, we can come together as a community - CNM Assemble!

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, the ABSL Advisory Council, led by Piotr Dziwok, Honorary President of ABSL Poland, is emphasizing the crucial role of higher education in equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in modern, diverse workplaces. As the nature of work becomes increasingly collaborative and global, universities must adapt their educational models to ensure graduates are prepared to work effectively in multicultural, multigenerational teams and possess the cross-domain skills needed for the future. What is Ewa Ger's, ABSL Advisory Council member and Director General at Uniwersytet SWPS, perspective on this topic as an expert in higher education? See below! 👇

Let me introduce one of the young participants who received a high award in the ICIA program in 2024 (KRYA). This student's invention is a landslide alert system. The device is installed on slopes and hill sides. When a landslide occurs, the system tilts and alerts the residents and rescue teams through SMS messages as well as a loud alarm. This solution has been applied in practice and has received many positive responses from the community and relevant authorities in Malaysia. Thus, a highly-rated solution in the ICIA program is one that is practical and addresses urgent issues faced by the community, especially those related to sustainable development. If you watch the student's video, you will notice a very well-structured introduction that includes: An introduction to the context with news coverage An introduction to the project and the solution An introduction to its characteristics and functionality An introduction to how it is applied in practice A closing message of the video. Another important factor is that the student has a deep understanding of their work and can answer the most challenging questions from the judges. I wish all the teachers and students who want to participate in the ICIA program in 2025 in Vietnam the best preparation. Rule of 3( last post for the day): I had an amazing time at the International Economic Development Council Annual Conference in Denver! The participants were incredible, and it was inspiring to have the arts integrated into the space to elevate the dialogue around the commodification of culture and its economic impact. It was an absolute pleasure to co-present with Ujamaa EDC Executive Director Nyree Ramsey and to be introduced by Naomi Tucker, DEI team lead at Fly Denver. A big thank you to Claudia and the entire IEDC team for organizing such a meaningful event! Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ If value hasn’t been historically allotted, it’s difficult to add value five, ten, or even 200 years later. 2️⃣ Everyone's lens is different, and creating an equitable funding structure—potentially with blind reviews—is imperative. 3️⃣ Culture is economic development. Looking forward to continuing this important conversation and pushing for equity-driven strategies in 2025 and beyond ( photos from mural Denver Co-The Heart of Five Points). #Equity #EconomicDevelopment #Culture #IEDC #PayEquity #NOLABA #UjamaaEDC
