Genuine, authentic, kind, committed...a few of the many words frequently used to describe 2024-2025 Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick.
Three facts about Stephanie:
1. She's the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan 🏈
2. She can Polka with the best of them 💃
3. She studied Russian, Serbian, Italian, and French in school 📚
Urchick is seen as a uniter. Find her at any event and you'll see people gathered around her, listening intently — much like players gather huddled around their coach. They unite, all a part of the same team. Until, 30 June 2025, that team is Rotary and Urchick is our coach. So there's really only one thing left to say: Game on💫

**Eastern Cape: A Breeding Ground for Rugby World Champions**
The Eastern Cape Province continues to be a powerhouse in producing world-class rugby talent, thanks to the competitive spirit thriving in its schools. These institutions, where a healthy yet fierce rivalry exists, are shaping the future of South African rugby.
In just a decade, many of these young athletes will be wearing the national colors, representing South Africa on the global stage.
Eastern Cape schools uphold Nelson Mandela's belief that sports and the arts are vital pathways to fostering unity and brotherhood across communities. This commitment to excellence and character development sets the stage for some of these players to rise to prominence.
A few will even catch the eye of global giants like Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, following in the footsteps of rugby stars such as Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe, Aphelele Fassi, and Sbu Nkosi. Through Roc Nation, Jay-Z is extending the essence of the American dream to Africa, empowering athletes to make a global impact.

Over Celebrating Bronze Medals: A Sign of Weak Mindset
I'm pleased to see the overwhelming celebration of Manu Bhaker's bronze medal. However, this highlights a concerning mental weakness in our nation.
Consider this:
Countries poorer than India (Fiji, Moldova, Tunisia, Mongolia) are excelling in the Olympics
We're not addressing reasons for our consistent underperformance
These countries achieve greatness despite smaller populations
As the movie "Rush" states: "If you were second, you were first in the list of losers." Yet we celebrate third place as if we've won the world.
This behavior echoes what our freedom fighters and great saints warned: we remain enslaved by our mindset.
Is it time we raised our standards and expectations in sports?
