https://lnkd.in/gKdShM5g I recently read an article in the Scientific American about the advancements of Artificial Intelligence in education. It made me reflect on my own experiences with AI and how it’s reshaping the way we learn. During high school, I saw firsthand how tools like ChatGPT could make a difference in Physics and Math classes. Today, AI acts as a tutor, simplifying complex topics—like intricate physics theories—and making them accessible to anyone. What’s even more exciting? AI empowers students to learn at their own pace. Gone are the days of asking the teacher a million questions (we’ve all been there). AI provides instant, tailored guidance, breaking down barriers to education and fostering inclusivity for learners of all speeds and styles. Just my perspective—what’s yours? How do you see AI shaping the classroom? 💭

AI in Education: Learning from the Calculator Debate Remember when calculators were controversial in classrooms? History is repeating itself with AI: 1. Loss of fundamental skills: - Then: "Students won't learn basic math if they rely on calculators." - Now: "AI will prevent students from developing writing and critical thinking skills." 2. Overreliance on technology: - Then: "What if the batteries run out?" - Now: "What if the internet goes down or AI isn't available?" 3. Cheating concerns: - Then: "Students will use calculators to cheat on tests." - Now: "AI will be used to generate essays and homework answers." 4. Curriculum fears: - Then: "We'll have to change our entire math curriculum!" - Now: "Traditional humanities courses will become obsolete!" But what actually happened with calculators? - Math education expanded, covering more advanced topics earlier - Students gained deeper understanding of mathematical concepts - New, more practical problem-solving skills emerged The lesson? Embracing AI in education could similarly: - Broaden the scope of what we teach and learn - Allow focus on higher-order thinking skills - Foster creativity and innovation in curriculum design Instead of resisting AI, let's learn from the calculator's integration and proactively shape an AI-enhanced educational future that's more dynamic, inclusive, and effective. Great article on what to do about AI in education: "Far from fearing technological progress, history teaches us to embrace it to broaden and democratize learning. The greater challenge lies not in resisting change, but in leveraging these innovations to develop curricula that address the needs of all learners, paving the way for a more equal and effective education for everyone." https://lnkd.in/gfVCgWtP

Technology in general has been the most important factor that influences the way education is being delivered but with the more prevalent technology of AI especially generative AI, it is important that we examined how the design element will impact education, especially through ethical and equitable lens. We often say that Education has three teachers, the environment, family/ community and the instructor but when tech is being design we tend to forget the Family. Great review of the book looking forward to reading more.
AI is reshaping education - but this doesn't necessarily spell disaster. "The Theory of Educational Technology", by scholars from the University of Cambridge and Manchester, explores how teaching can integrate AI programmes. Professor Rupert Wegerif and Dr Louis Major argue that it can help students' communication, both inside and outside the class. But doing so requires robust policies for using AI, with input from students, teachers, and academics. A new book by Cambridge and Manchester academics argues that education and technology have always been “entangled”, and that advances in areas like artificial intelligence raise an urgent need to re-evaluate the design of future
