#Workingtogether for a #greenworld! In a significant move demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability, Azerbaijan declared 2024 "Green World Solidarity Year" at the end of last year. This decision aimed to enhance international solidarity in the global effort against climate change. Green energy goals of Azerbaijan The Republic of Azerbaijan prioritizes the creation of green energy sources, with a goal for renewable energy to constitute 30% of its electricity-generating capacity by 2030. This target reflects climate goals of Azerbaijan and its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Azerbaijan has set challenging targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for a 35% reduction by 2030 and a 40% reduction by 2050. The Government of Azerbaijan has planned to transform the liberated Karabakh (Garabagh) and East Zangazur regions fully into a "Net-Zero Emission" Zone as a priority within the ongoing reconstruction and development projects, as well as reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40 percent by 2050. The green energy potential of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan includes almost all types of renewable energy sources, including hydro, solar, wind, and geothermal. Liberated Karabakh and East Zangezur, as well as the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, have been declared green energy zones. The protection of the environment stands as a priority in the extensive restoration and redevelopment processes unfolding in the liberated territories. Innovative approaches such as "smart city" and "smart village" are implemented in these areas, contributing to ecosystem restoration. Role of Azerbaijan in the international climate agenda As a responsible member of the international community, Azerbaijan has hosted the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this week. Hosting of COP29 further signifies and reflects profound respect and trust of the international community in Azerbaijan, recognizing endeavors of our country in environmental protection and addressing climate change on national, regional and global scales. #Azerbaijan #President #ILHAMALIYEV #COP29 #UNClimateChangeConference

The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29 Azerbaijan) in Baku was a pivotal moment in advancing global sustainability efforts. Here's a snapshot of the key outcomes that will shape the future of climate action: 1. Fossil Fuel Phase-Out and Renewable Energy Scale-Up Countries reaffirmed commitments to phase out fossil fuels while aiming to double energy efficiency and triple the deployment of renewables. The emphasis is on creating actionable roadmaps for halting fossil fuel expansion and reforming subsidies that distort clean energy markets 2. Climate Finance and Just Transition The New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance targets a framework beyond the $100 billion annual commitment, addressing the funding gap for mitigation and adaptation. Meanwhile, the Just Transition Work Program gained momentum, aiming for equitable pathways that balance economic, social, and environmental needs 3. Carbon Markets Under Article 6 COP29 advanced the rules for international carbon trading under the Paris Agreement, emphasizing transparency and integrity. These markets could channel investments into technologies like carbon capture and hydrogen power, critical for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors 4. Innovations in Sustainability Discussions highlighted the role of clean energy technologies, including green hydrogen, circular economy principles, and climate-smart agriculture. Aligning efforts on biodiversity and climate resilience was a crucial step, bridging gaps between environmental goals and carbon mitigation As we look forward, these decisions reinforce the urgent need for a just, inclusive energy transition, leveraging innovation to achieve a low-carbon future. Collaboration among nations, industries, and communities will determine the pace of progress toward net-zero goals. #Sustainability #COP29 #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction

#Azerbaijan fosters companies targeting green solutions: Deputy Energy Minister The Azerbaijani state is determined to assist businesses in implementing green solutions through financial and other mechanisms, Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov said. He made the remark during the event “Enhancing Ambition, Enabling Action: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum” in #Baku. The deputy minister noted that to solve the world's most acute climate problems (excluding #China), the required funding is currently $100 billion in total, i.e. $2.4 billion every year. According to him, the increasing involvement of businesses in the climate agenda through government support for their adaptation and green transition will yield long-term results. “When private companies implement green solutions and the cost of new green solutions is equal to or lower than the cost of using traditional fuels, then there may be no need for COP conferences,” Soltanov said. https://lnkd.in/eGVaZZug

🌍 Honored to represent Türkiye at COP29 in Baku! At this pivotal summit, global leaders are uniting to address urgent climate challenges. Türkiye is stepping up with a strong delegation, including ministers and high-level officials, joining over 80 presidents from around the world in a collective commitment to climate action. Türkiye has already submitted its long-term climate strategy to the UN, marking a significant stride toward sustainability. Our strategy focuses on reducing emissions, advancing renewable energy, and building resilience against climate impacts. Global Carbon Market Agreement: Late last night, negotiators finalized an agreement to initiate a global carbon market operated by the UN, set to become the “gold standard” for carbon credit trading. This mechanism will support large-scale funding for emissions reduction projects in developing countries, helping nations and companies meet their carbon reduction targets. As carbon markets grow, we hope this agreement will accelerate emissions trading initiatives in Türkiye, boosting transparency and impact in our efforts to reduce emissions. Proud to be accredited on behalf of Türkiye and to contribute to these crucial discussions. Together, we can drive meaningful change! 🌱 #Cop29 #ClimateAction #GlobalCarbonMarket #CarbonCredits #UNClimateChange #İklimKanunu #Türkiye
