𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮̈𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝟭.𝟲𝟲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗺𝘂𝘀+ 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 Majority of Funding for Programs with a Focus on Middle East and Africa In 2024 Freie Universität Berlin successfully applied for 1.66 million euros of funding for student and staff exchanges with partner universities worldwide. This represents the highest funding commitment made by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) for German universities as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 program, which sponsors mobility with partner countries around the world. These funds may be used for exchanges in many regions of the world; at #FreieUniversität exchanges with universities in the #MiddleEast and #Africa, in particular, will benefit from this funding. About 800,000 euros are available for the 2024–2027 funding period for the regions in the southern Mediterranean, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. People overcomplicate how they can be awarded an ESKAS scholarship to study in Switzerland. Follow the funder priorities in this one-pager to secure a fully-funded programme in Switzerland. How? Use a value-driven approach as suggested by Justin Welsh when networking (or building relationships) with academics in Switzerland (or any developed country): 1) Solve their problems How? Read a couple of their recent published papers and propose ways of expanding the knowledge base of those papers. 2) Send them something useful. How? Came across a post or material related to their research interests? Send them a pdf version of that material. 3) Support their business/project How? Follow their social media accounts and make it a habit to leave valuable comments on their posts. By so doing, your name would come across as someone with the potential to bring something to the table when hired in their laboratory or department during your PhD programme. Remember, building your academic network is NOT about YOU, but it's about THEM. And one last thing: you need to be diplomatic about the entire process. 🌐🎓 Some weeks ago, DAAD German Academic Exchange Service and Institute of International Education convened a high-level roundtable in Washington, DC, uniting U.S. and European stakeholders to advance transatlantic partnerships in Higher Education (HE). This significant event built upon our first DAAD-IIE roundtable in Brussels last October, ahead of the EU-U.S. Summit. 🎯 The goals of the Transatlantic High-Level Roundtable were to: ◾ Map current opportunities to boost research, student mobility, and people-to-people exchanges. ◾ Discuss the importance of supporting and expanding programs. ◾ Explore the feasibility of a common framework for collaborative activities and share successful models of cross-institutional and multilateral partnerships. ◾ Identify the next steps to advance transatlantic partnerships in HE. 📌 Based on the discussion outcomes, IIE and DAAD decided to: ◾ Overcome the information gap in transatlantic partnerships by regularly providing focused and comprehensive state-of-play reports. ◾ Establish a digital platform to share existing opportunities in the field of transatlantic HE collaboration. ◾ Disseminate information about transatlantic exchange and cooperation to the wider public. ◾ Continue transatlantic roundtables to foster cross-sectoral and cross-country knowledge exchange and goodwill (next edition taking place in spring 2025 in Europe). 👉 The event report is now available on our website: https://lnkd.in/eGx-QaBT 🚀 DAAD Brussels looks forward to continuing the IIE-DAAD collaboration to jointly leverage the potential of transatlantic cooperation in HE, addressing shared priorities, and building a stronger, more connected future. #DAAD #IIE #HigherEducation #TransatlanticPartnership #AcademicExchanges

🌟 Future of the European University Alliances: Challenging, but Bright! 🌟 🌍This week, we had the pleasure of attending the inspiring event "The Road Towards a European Degree and the Future of European University Alliances", organized by NTNU Brussels, Helsinki EU Office, and Greater Copenhagen EU Office. ✨ 🇪🇺 Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of the Higher Education Unit at DG EAC, European Commission, gave an enriching presentation on the current landscape and future of European University Alliances and the European Degree. 📚 Key takeaways: 🌟 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized "strengthening European Alliances" in her 2024-2029 political guidelines. 💼 Mario Draghi's recent report highlights a fivefold increase in Erasmus+ funding for 2028-2034 to reach more young people across the EU. 💶 💡 A major goal is to attract and retain top talent within Europe, with University Alliances playing a critical role. 👨🎓 🎯 While establishing a European degree will require substantial effort, it will pave the way for easier joint degrees among universities. 🌐 🤞 Fingers crossed for all European University Alliances, and a warm welcome to the newcomers! 🙌✨ #UnILiON #EuropeanUniversities #EUEducation #HigherEducation #EuropeanDegree #FutureOfEducation
