Join us for our roundtable discussion on "European Synergies: Pioneering Carbon Management through New Infrastructure and Cooperation" on March 20th, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, hosted at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union, Rue Montoyer 47, 1000 Brussels. At this roundtable, we will discuss the governance, institutional frameworks, and financial incentives essential for scaling Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) methods on the path climate-neutrality. Our panel, including Chris Sherwood, Artur Runge-Metzger, Wijnand Stoefs, and representatives from the European Commission, moderated by Ralf Fücks of LibMod, will explore the challenges and opportunities in achieving a carbon-neutral future through sustainable carbon management and removal. To develop paths for Europe's transition to sustainable carbon management register via the following link: https://lnkd.in/e7DbGY5A Background info: Our agenda, informed by the recent European Commission's and German Federal's Industrial Carbon Management Strategy and the Net Zero Industry Act, will delve into the pathways for enhancing carbon management & negative emissions infrastructure by 2030. The significance of carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS), alongside removal methods, will be a focal point, especially in the context of regulatory clarity to foster sustainable innovation. As we navigate the complexities of technological dependencies and market volatilities, the importance of robust regulatory frameworks cannot be overstated. These frameworks are essential to ensure that our efforts toward emissions reduction are not only effective but also equitable and sustainable. We look forward to your participation and insightful discussion! #CarbonManagement #CDR #EuropeanUnion

We need to think about scaling carbon removal, not just now, but well into the future. To do that we need a robust and effective policy framework. 💪 Beyond boosting funding for R&D and innovation for carbon removal and creating the incentives to get the projects off the ground, the EU must look at how carbon removal will fit into current policies and what initiatives it should craft to ensure a responsible trajectory for carbon removal going forward. We have drafted 5 recommendations for how the EU could do that 👇 Read more in our EU CDR Strategy: https://lnkd.in/eAJHeU_r #cdrforeurope #carbonremoval

A low-carbon transition plan is a company's strategy to achieve emissions reductions and manage the transition to a low-carbon economy. Key elements: 🔑 Statement of ambition embodied in a science-based goal in line with the Paris Agreement 🔑 Information and transparency to help stakeholders understand how the company is approaching their transition 🔑 Alignment of resources and advocacy to set the plan in action Watch our latest #webinar on corporate #lowcarbontransition planning where C2ES Director of Corporate Low-Carbon Transition Planning Nicholas Franco shares more details. 📽️ https://bit.ly/3y4xXtx

Last week represented a significant milestone for the European Green Deal, marking what several observers defined as a noticeable shift towards industrial policy and its practical implementation. Among key developments: ➡ The European Commission’s proposal for the EU's 2040 carbon emission reduction target, advocating for a 90% net greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2040. ➡ The EC's Communication on Industrial Carbon Management, emphasising the importance of carbon removals to complement measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions. ➡ The Council of the EU and European Parliament’s interinstitutional agreement on the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA), which sets a non-binding target to produce domestically 40% of the clean technologies used in Europe by 2030 ➡ The interinstitutional agreement on the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), which will not allocate new funding to clean tech but aims to better mobilise resources from existing funds. 🔎 Discover EERA’s full analysis: https://lnkd.in/eZA26_D3

Today is a landmark day for #climateaction and especially #carboncapture in Europe. The European Commission's recommendation for a 2040 climate target is clear: a rapid scale-up of carbon capture and storage infrastructure is needed over the coming decades - infrastructure which will serve our planet to keep and remove CO2 out of the atmosphere and put it back in the ground. See the full Communication here ➡ https://lnkd.in/djYkN3r3 The Industrial Carbon Management Strategy (also launched today) calls for a massive scale-up of CO2 storage capacity in Europe - 250 million tons per year by 2040. Given we have just 2 storage projects under construction in Europe currently, this is a massive task with no time to waste (we've done enough of that already). To give a sense of what's needed, this new analysis by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre provides an overview: https://lnkd.in/dWTvqBVH See the full Strategy here ➡ https://lnkd.in/diM4jVMx These announcements build on years of tireless work by environmental NGOs like Bellona Europa and my own organisation Clean Air Task Force, alongside industrial producers, technology providers, oil and gas companies, trade unions and dozens of other dedicated advocates - a special shoutout to my favourite Chris' in the CCS community (there's a lot): Chris Davies and Krzysztof (Chris) Bolesta who've spent years fighting to see days like today I'll be sharing more thoughts on the Strategy and Europe's progress on carbon capture soon but for now, check out our press releases on the 2040 target and Industrial Carbon Management Strategy here ⤵ https://lnkd.in/dkKrcyXx https://lnkd.in/db-XWv_n
