This Thursday we are ditching #ThrowbackThursday and looking forward instead. This is Annette, our Group Sustainability Lead, proudly presenting one of our new electric trucks at a recent exhibition. At Gregory Group we have a target to be net zero by 2038 and these new trucks are helping us get there. Having attended the Road Transport Expo (RTX) which is the UK's biggest truck event, Annette said: "It was brilliant to see such a big sustainability focus at the RTX. There is a lot of innovation coming to the market with decarbonisation high on many agendas. Another busy day for 2zero @ #TRA2024! We had many meetings at our booth this morning: - One internal meeting about activities related to the future of our partnership,  - The second meeting on the software-defined vehicles, and  - The 3rd meeting on coordination with member states.  Additionally, we visited some 2Zero-funded projects and had a lot of networking at the booth with huge interest in our brand new project portfolio (downloadable from the 2Zero website). During the strategic session on electrification of road transport, we heard very clearly that electrification is the future. Michael Bültmann from ABB e-mobility identified three key areas that need investigation to move forward together: real-world testing, standardisation, and collaboration. Edel Sheridan, representing the batteries partnership (BEPA - Batteries European Partnership Association) highlighted the need to get battery cell production in Europe. Niklas Gustafsson from Volvo Group reminded us that there is a major difference between trucks and cars. Trucks are not standing still. There is no one silver bullet to overcome decarbonisation challenges, so different solutions should be investigated. BEV, FCEV of course, while ICE should remain around for some specific applications. To achieve zero emission transport, we need to connect vehicles, infrastructure, green energy and business case through digitalisation. In the strategic session on Circular Economy, Rosalinde van der Vlies from European Commission DG RTD and Dr. Markus Seidel, ERTRAC - European Road Transport Research Advisory Council expert from BMW Group, underlined the importance of developing a new ecosystem that enables circularity in the transport sector; crucial challenge for ensuring sustainability and resilience in Europe.
