I’m so excited to share my latest publication in Additive Manufacturing! When I began my work as an AM researcher, publishing in this journal was a pipe dream. However, after over a year of work on this project, my research on a novel print head improvement to pellet based 3D printing is now available for anyone to read through open access. Enormous thanks to my mentors and lab mates for their support throughout this project.
Title: “Integration of a needle valve mechanism with Cura slicing software for improved retraction in pellet-based material extrusion”
🔍 Our study introduces a novel needle valve approach for flow control in FGF systems, enhancing part complexity while reducing stringing.
🛠️ Using off-the-shelf slicer software, we've made
valve control g-code generation accessible for users, streamlining
implementation.
📉 Our experiments showcased a significant reduction in
stringing, enabling intricate prints like soft robotic actuators and complex
geometries.
💡 This study underscores the potential of needle
valves as a cost-effective solution for precise flow control in FGF systems.
