🔬📚 Today we would like to share with you a cutting-edge publication that addresses the challenge of boosting the performance of rotating bed enzymatic reactors! 💡 Authors Katarzyna Szymaska, Klaudia Odrozek, @Aurelia Zniszczo,Wojciech Pudlo, and Andrzej B. Jarzbski present a novel hierarchically structured siliceous packing as a solution. 🎯 Remarkable results were observed through the use of siliceous pellets with a hierarchical pore structure in micrometric and nanometric scales. These pellets, crafted using a sol-gel method, phase separation, and pore templating, were then attached to a model enzyme (invertase) and tested in a sucrose hydrolysis reaction. 📢 The research paper provides extensive evidence of the superior performance of this new structured packing. I’m glad to share our review article. It is the first application of the unified scale for analysis of guest inclusion by cyclodextrins both in solution and solid state. Bringing the new meaning of complexation efficiency (CE), new entropy-based approach for binding constants, and actual factors in solid methods. Cointercalation is a mechanism by which ions from the electrolyte can intercalate into the host electrode together with their solvation sheath. So far, the effect has mostly been regarded as an electrolyte feature. In our recent work, we put an emphasis on how the electrode structure can be leveraged to control cointercalation, in particular tuning of the nanoconfinement properties of layered and 2D materials. We believe such efforts can enable new cell chemistries 🔋 and be especially relevant for “post-lithium”, multivalent ion intercalation or low-temperature battery operation. God, the last thing I ever considered when I reported on this paper -- both for my written project and for my presentation for our "Extreme Environments" (or whatever exactly it was called) seminar at UMSL -- was that it might have any relevance /whatsoever/ to human experience. But these: the oxygen-dependently synthesized sterol versus the oxygen-independently synthesized triterpenoid (yes, with relationship to terpenes and hence isoprene), each as a functional membrane lipid going in the canonical "cholesterol" spot for membrane rigidity... I wanna know whether protons behave differently near pumps and/or ATP synthase (powered by the proton gradient), and/or whether other cations behave differently near their respective pumps and channels, when lipid rafts are constituated of oxygen-dependently synthesized sterols (replete with multiple ethene bonds) versus when they are constituated of oxygen-independently synthesized triterpenoids and the like (replete only with sigma bonds between the carbons). You'd think the van-der-Waals interactions would be pretttty different, no? Affecting electrical insulation /around/ the current (lateral electical insulation) and preventing that field impetus from propagating from site to site to site, under the cholesteric circumstance, but what. about. the triterpenoid case? https://lnkd.in/ghgqsmzg

My first article published in ACS Applied materials and Interfaces. For the first time worked on COFs synthesis and checked its performance for capturing the SO2.

Happy to share that my last PhD project has been published 2 days ago as an Editor’s choice paper in ACS Catalysis. In this publication, we were able to disentangle the pitfalls of the RDE-based #OER stability assessment. When determining the stability of an OER catalyst, large discrepancy between RDE and MEA are observed. Debates are ongoing on whether this discrepancy is due to bubble accumulation within the porous structure of the catalyst or to the degradation/passivation of the substrate material (backing electrode material). By means of an inverted RDE-based approach and targeted experiments, we finally could determine the interplay of those two processes and their relative impact on the intrinsic and operational material stability. Pleased to share our latest paper published in Separation and Purification Technology. In this paper, we explored the possibility of combining two different established strategies for enhancing the separation of ternary azeotropic mixture. The first strategy involves introducing a small quantity of solvent as a makeup stream to intentionally shift the feed composition to a region that allows the use of a decanter, which would provide a more energy-efficient separation compared to conventional pressure-driven mechanisms. Their study explores an new method for modifying ketones through C-H acetylation. They developed a copper-based catalyst that enables this reaction at room temperature, offering a more efficient approach than traditional methods.
