Avangrid and CIP Achieve Milestone with Vineyard Wind 1 Offshore Wind Project Avangrid, Inc., a leading sustainable energy company and part of the Iberdrola Group and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has announced a major Vineyard Wind 1 project milestone. Located off the coast of Massachusetts, Vineyard Wind 1 is now delivering over 136 MW of clean energy to the local grid, making it the largest operating offshore wind project in the United States. The project is expected to create 3,600 FTE job years, save customers $1.4 billion over 20 years, and cut carbon emissions by 1.6 million metric tons annually—equivalent to removing 325,000 cars from the road each year. With Keir Starmer’s recent visit to a #WindFarm in #Wales, the spotlight is on #RenewableEnergy. We’d like to take this opportunity to renew calls for the #Government to lift restrictive planning regulations on small-scale #WindTurbines.     Currently, these #turbines are limited to a height of just 11.1m - below the tree line - severely limiting their #efficiency and #energy generating potential. Alongside #WindTechnology experts, we’re advocating for the height limit to be raised to 30m, which would dramatically enhance their effectiveness.     David Cowdrey, our Acting Chief Executive, emphasises, “While large-scale wind is crucial, we must not overlook the potential of small-scale wind turbines to provide affordable, #CleanEnergy to #rural communities and #businesses, particularly #farmers. These turbines are cost-effective, unobtrusive, and can play a significant role in our energy future - if we lift unnecessary barriers.”     By raising the height restrictions and allowing for permitted development, we can empower rural communities to harness renewable energy from wind, contributing to a cleaner, greener future for all. The V&A Waterfront, together with German manufacturer LuvSide GmbH, have installed small wind turbines which form part of a pilot project of the Renewable Energy Solutions Programme (RES Programme) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action’s German Energy Solutions initiative. The small wind turbines offer an environmentally friendly and low-noise way of compensating for power outages. The innovative technology is not only quiet but also aesthetically pleasing. The four installed LS Double Helix 1.0 turbines offer an energy yield of several thousand kWh per year, depending on the wind power.
