It’s October, and the possibilities are abundant as always.

This month, we're introducing 116 fresh opportunities for your music to receive exposure, secure funding, and generate a significant income — all of which are free to apply for. 😉

Yes, you read it right, we're adding 116 new opportunities to the Myxxy for Creators database throughout October!

We're committed to keeping our community well-informed and in the mix, so we update our platform every Friday with the latest submission calls and opportunities.

The 6th of October, we added 28 of those 116 new opportunities, and last week another 27. This week have some amazing adds coming to the platform.

🥳 Best practices on landing your first festival or gig 🥳

As I mentioned last month one of our members, Tyelin booked their first ever festival gig for next year ----Festival booking season for first and second quarter is in full throttle.

Dozens of festivals are accepting submissions. If you're looking to book your first or next festival gig, now's the time to apply.

I sat down with Tyelin to understand their process and answer a few of your questions. Lets dig in .....

🎯 Question #1 from Gil Gauci : Do you normally need a huge following to book your first festival ?

No, you don't normally need a huge following to book your first festival. There are many small and medium-sized festivals that are looking for new and emerging artists. However, it is important to have a strong portfolio of music and live performances. I started building my portfolio through open mics, talent shows, etc. anywhere with a sizable crowd is a great place to start.

🎯 Question #2 from Jordan Curls : Do you think audition footage or show footage will suffice more for submissions?

Both audition footage and show footage can be effective for submissions. Audition footage can be a good way to show off your vocal and instrumental skills, while show footage can give festival bookers a better sense of your stage presence and how you interact with an audience. Ultimately, what matters most is that the footage is high quality and that it shows you in your best light.

Here are some tips i've picked up along my journey for creating effective submission footage:

• Make sure the audio and video quality is good.
• Choose a song or two that showcase your best vocal and instrumental skills.
• If you are submitting show footage, choose clips from a recent performance where the crowd is engaged and energetic.
• Edit your footage to be concise and to the point. Aim for a video that is no more than 3 minutes long.

🎯 Question #3 from Derrin Thompson : What’s the best way / practice to reach out to booking agents for festivals and even small shows?

Tbh I don't focus on cold outreach to booking agents or events who don't already have a submission process in place. In my experience they’re often very difficult to get in touch with, and when I would they’d shut me down completely because I wasn't at a certain stage in my career. Not to mention many ask for money. I've found that it's more effective to focus on open call opportunities for festivals and other gigs.

These events are actively looking for new / emerging talent, and they have a clear and concise process for submitting our music.

This is why I love the Myxxy platform all the research is done for me. I explore open calls, and submit to the ones that i'm likely to win or secure. I've learned it's not about submitting to every opening, but applying to the right ones.

I would say ......

• Get clear about what you want to accomplish
• Understand and adopt the mindset of someone who accomplishes those achievements
• Keep it simple: Pick 3 goals and focus on them
• It's all about how you perceive yourself, once I stopped looking at myself as a "starving artist and undiscovered artist " I started attracting avenues to that allowed me to be more discoverable.
• Our beliefs matter, the identity we hold matters, and the way we view how the world works matters.

➡️ Treefort Music Fest (Festival)

Treefort is a 5 day music festival with an average daily attendance between 15,000 to 20,000 music lovers

Treefort is looking for artists who are taking their craft to new levels and transforming their scene, wherever that may be. Treefort Music Fest is not genre-specific but fairly attitude-specific. We look for artists who are serious about their work, growth, and community. Submit your band or solo project for Treefort Music Fest 2024.

All music artists accepted to perform at Treefort 2024 will be offered at least one 30- to 40-minute set at an official Treefort venue over the 5 day span of the festival (March 20–24, 2024). All accepted artists will receive a minimum of $100 in cash (additional travel reimbursement is negotiable), 5-day festival wristbands for each band member ($300 value per wristband), access to Treefort Artist Hospitality Lounge, 3 guest list spots to the specific show that you play, eternal glory, plus other Treefort good times and perks (like drink tickets, bag of goodies, and more).

Radius Clause: All artists confirmed for Treefort Music Fest will be asked not to play any other Boise area (100 mile radius) shows in March 2024 and not to announce any other Boise area shows in April 2024 and beyond until after their set at the festival. We are open to exceptions to this request, but we ask that they be discussed with us before confirming your appearance. Please note that if accepted, the information you submit here may be used on Treefort Music Fest's website and various marketing materials.

➡️ Salt Lick Incubator (Funding/Grant)

The Salt Lick Incubator is a nonprofit organization that supports emerging musicians on their path to sustainable careers. Our project grants range from $5,000 to $15,000 and are awarded to musicians performing in songful, contemporary genres to use for projects such as producing a song or album, producing a music video, developing social media assets, pressing vinyl, touring, or developing branding and marketing assets and strategies. All grants are accompanied by a plan developed with each recipient to ensure the artist’s activities are both strategic and successful.

➡️ 2024 SONGWRITER IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM (Residency)

This program is open to Canadian and international (yes, US-based)* songwriters aged 19+ with a professional practice at any stage in their career (established, mid-career, and emerging). Equal consideration will be given to all musical genres. Eligibility is not limited to traditional lyric-based songwriting. 

Established songwriting duos are welcome to apply; however our budgets for performance and travel are limited and were created with a single artist in mind. Trios or groups are not eligible.
