12 Days of Holiday High Performance
I had planned this amazing Christmas activity called the Peddle Wagon where 12 of our family & friends would peddle around downtown Cincinnati, Ohio and travel between restaurant destinations. It would be an evening to remember as I planned out every detail. That Christmas, my nephew was not having it and would not come up from the basement to get into the car.
I was so focused on the event planning, I screamed at the top of my lungs, “Get up here and get into the car!” The other family members retreated and scurried into the car as my wrath had overtaken the household! I didn’t know I had that in me, and ultimately my nephew obliged and got into the car. My voice was hoarse, but gosh by golly, we made merry on that peddle wagon and at each of our restaurant stops. Little did I realize the impact of my high performance goals had a negative impact on the mood of that evening. “Fa La La."
Are you the high performer that commands the holiday season be merry and bright? Do you tend to every detail, every list and seek to top the previous year’s performance and ensure everyone has a good time… or else! When the holiday does not go as expected, do you crawl into a corner with eggnog and wonder where you fail? This is called the Holiday High Performance Pitfall that overshadows your ability to simply enjoy the time with family, friends and your community. “Fa La La."
To bring some levity back to the holiday season and poke fun at the high performer in you, I’d like to share some holiday cheer with you in the 12 days Holiday High Performance.
Before I continue, you may notice I sprinkled this post with some “Fa La La." This expression started when things didn't go as expected and in order to simply accept what was not planned, I would say “Fa La La." It was my way of brushing off the Grinch that was invading my holiday cheer and make merry.

“When you reflect back on what you have done last year, think about how far you've come. Celebrate yourself. Be inspired by yourself, but also think about how you serve your family, your community, and even the people you haven't even met yet.”
