2 Sales Tips You Need To Succeed In 2024

In January 2017, I received an unexpected invitation to speak at an event in Denver. The event's small turnout, just 10 attendees, initially left me wondering if the trip was worthwhile. However, I reminded myself of my passion for speaking and the investment I had made in becoming a speaker, so I decided to make the most of it.

For the next 45 minutes, I passionately shared my knowledge, offering more insights than I had planned. I delivered a presentation on building a better health plan with less money, using real-life stories to engage the audience. When the presentation concluded, an individual in the room stood out. He was impressed by my unique approach to discussing health insurance and handed me his business card, revealing his role as the Director of Total Rewards at PepsiCo, a Fortune 50 company.

From this experience, I learned my first crucial lesson: communication and storytelling are paramount in the world of sales. Plato's wisdom, "Those who tell stories will rule society," struck a chord with me.

Master the Art of Storytelling and Effective Communication:

I dived deeper into improving my communication skills. Two months later, I was running a benefits roundtable for major organizations in Boulder County's public sector market. With three of the state's five largest school districts present, representing over 25,000 employees, I led the discussion by incorporating my storytelling approach.

The first crucial tip for success in sales is mastering the art of storytelling and effective communication. Sales professionals must capture their audience's attention and convey their messages in an engaging and relatable manner. By weaving stories and compelling narratives into their presentations, they can connect on a deeper level with clients, customers, or partners. Effective communication and storytelling not only make presentations more memorable but also build trust and rapport. Salespeople can convey complex information in a way that is easy to understand and resonates with their audience.

Build and Promote Your Personal Brand:

Fast forward two years, in 2019, I was at Omaha airport, exhausted after a week on the road. A stranger approached me, expressing appreciation for my content on LinkedIn. He revealed that he had been following my posts for a year and shared them with his employees. This experience helped me realize that in today's world, business success hinges on who knows you, not just who you know.

This underscores the importance of building and promoting a personal brand. In today's business landscape, it's not merely about who you know, but more importantly, about who knows you. Establishing and promoting a personal brand can help you stand out amidst the competition. Consistently sharing valuable insights, expertise, and content on platforms like LinkedIn can boost your visibility and reputation within your industry. When potential clients or business partners encounter your brand, they are more likely to trust your expertise and seek your services or advice.

As we approach 2024, these two sales tips are crucial for success. By mastering storytelling and effective communication and building and promoting a personal brand, you can make lasting connections and distinguish yourself in the competitive world of sales. So, go out there, share your stories, and make your mark in the world of sales.
