Emotional intelligence ?
It refers to the capability of a person to manage and control his or her emotions and possess the ability to control the emotions of others as well. In other words, they can influence the emotions of other people also in right direction - To build high performing team , Better Workplace environment !
The term was coined in 1990 in a research paper by two psychology professors, John D. Mayer of UNH and Peter Salovey of Yale
Five components of emotional intelligence that allow individuals to recognize, connect with, and learn from their own and other people’s mental states:
- Self-Awareness – Do you know your own strengths and weaknesses and are you willing to admit to them accordingly?
- Self-Regulation – Do you take the time to think before you speak or act? Are you able to cope with things that are outside of your control?
- Motivation – Are you motivated by money and power or do you see your work as something you’re passionate about? Are you willing to take on new challenges?
- Empathy – Can you respectfully communicate with others, especially people from other cultures, religions, and ethnicities?
- Social Skills – Are you able to argue for your point of view without alienating others?
The most effective leaders are all alike in one crucial way: they all have a high degree of what has come to be known as emotional intelligence. It’s not that IQ and technical skills are irrelevant. They do matter, but…they are the entry-level requirements for executive positions.
