3 Creative Ways to Generate Leads on Twitter

For over a decade, Twitter has been a favored social media source for businesses and individuals alike. Twitter’s ever advancing, fast-paced information feed has always been its drawing attraction, and as of February 2017, Twitter boasts a whopping 319 million average active monthly users. Savvy marketers are capitalizing on this by using Twitter to find, engage, and eventually convert their prospects into customers. In fact, companies that use Twitter generally have double the leads per month than their non-Twitter counterparts.

Looking for some creative ways to start generating leads on Twitter? Check out some of our favorite methods below!

Use Trending Hashtags

The trick to generating leads using hashtags is staying relevant. Twitter is by far the fastest moving social platform and as such the trending topics, categorized by hashtags, quickly change. Staying on top of trending hashtags and using trending topics will make your tweets appear higher up in the search feed and therefore more visible. Start by going to Twitter search. Along the bottom of the page you will see the current trending hashtags; these change all the time, so what shows up one hour may not be trending the next. The trick to this is to capitalize on these trending hashtags by picking one that may be relevant to your industry and/or content and writing a tweet with it while it’s still trending. If there isn’t a trending hashtag relevant to your industry, be imaginative and find a way to relate a trending hashtag to your company or industry in a tweet.

Create A Twitter Landing Page

Try tweeting a link to a twitter-specific landing page. This is more beneficial than just tweeting a link to your company website because it can be tailored to what your Twitter prospects are looking for (ex: Why they clicked on your tweet). Make your landing page simple but informative. Twitter users want their information fast. If a landing page takes forever to load or is so crowded with content that it is impossible to quickly find what they’re looking for, the prospect will more than likely leave the page.

Include important information such as an overview of your service or product, a contact form (i.e. an email newsletter or demo sign up), or perhaps a special offer or trial. Remember to be clear and direct in order for the page to have its best chance at making a conversion. Most importantly, make sure your landing page is mobile friendly! Since most of Twitter traffic comes from mobile devices, it would only make sense to make sure your landing page is mobile-optimized. If you don’t, your conversions may suffer for it.

Follow Prospects on Twitter

Unlike other social media sites (ahem, Facebook and Linkedin – we’re talking to you), Twitter doesn’t create a barrier between business accounts and their prospects. That means that technically, there is nothing stopping a company from starting up a conversation with potential prospects. Now there is a delicate balance to this method, and we don’t want you to scare away potential prospects by coming off too strong or sales-y. Instead, it’s important to come across as informative and friendly.

This method requires you to follow your prospects on Twitter; Much can be learned about prospects by simply following them and seeing how they behave. Put your prospects together on a private list, this way you can focus solely on their business-related tweets. After following prospects over time, you get to know them, their complaints, and their pain points. Once a rapport has been built and the opportunity presents itself, you can direct mention a prospect (aka tweet at them) and ask a sincere question or make an observational comment. From there, you can potentially get a conversation going and introduce your solution, offer a demo, or share some of your content! Take a look how Coca-Cola puts this to use on their Twitter Account:
