3 Secrets to Success for this Retail Holiday Season

People First. Driving trust, confidence, and loyalty by consistently demonstrating excellence in customer service. See your customers. Care about them. Anticipate their needs both in stores and online. Seek opportunities to make a difference for your team and your customers.

Be agile. Keep your knees bent and eyes focused on solving problems for customers as they arise.

Consistency is key. Develop an approach that communicates consistently to your customer. Provide value by helping them navigate the season, the deals, and their shopping journey. This gives them multiple avenues to engage with your brand and the opportunity to shop when they want and for what they want.

During my career, there hasn’t been one holiday season that has been duplicative of another. This year is no different. Whether you’re walking through the aisles to stock or shop or clicking to fill the cart, remember that it’s been a difficult and long year for many, do your part to spark joy for your customers and teams. In the hustle and bustle of the season, don’t forget to be kind to yourself and continuously seek opportunities to make a difference for your team and your customers.

The secret to a successful holiday season should be no secret at all.

Would love to see more investment in experimentation where purchase decisions are difficult without visiting a retail store.

The biggest need right now, in terms of health and safety, is for retail stores to have more air circulation. I have not yet seen one store, from any brand, that is taking this seriously. Covid-19 is an airborne disease yet the focus for most is cleaning surfaces, and requiring/urging of mask usage. But if the air is circulated, and even cleaned, then everyone benefits. Fans are not hard to install - but there are now HVAC solutions on the market, that install into any system, that clean the air of viruses - including the virus causing Covid-19.
