3 Signs you Lost the Spark in your Career

3 Signs you Lost the Spark in your Career

Once upon a time, a girl who was born and raised in an acquaint village in the southern part of the Netherlands, decided she wanted to explore the world.

Armed with a desire to learn about other cultures and work in international environments, she studied international business at the university.

At that time, she didn’t know where this road would lead her to eventually, but she took the path and trusted she was doing the right thing.

She started envisioning a career in a multinational corporation, where she was leading teams.

Leading people, and inspiring them to perform at their best, has been her main driver ever since.

Her career started in finance and accounting, where she climbed the corporate career ladder and led international teams.

After nearly 20 years in corporate, she realized she had lost the spark in her career.

She did the internal work, found her passion in coaching, and pivoted her career into running her own coaching business.

She is me and you can find your spark, too!

After all, you can’t start a fire without a spark, right?

Finding your spark is an ongoing process.

Some find it early careers and stick with it.

Others keep searching for it their entire life.

Or maybe you are in doubt whether you have lost the spark in your career.

If that's the case, read on to learn more!

Today I share 3 signs you lost the spark in your career.

It is simple: If you feel your leadership role is either not fun, not meaningful, or fulfilling… let’s say you have some work to do.

If two or more of these elements are lacking, well… the writing is on the wall...

And here’s why:

The three key elements of happiness at work are fun, meaning, and fulfillment.

Often, corporate leaders tell me that they are not entirely happy in their role.

To better understand these signs of losing the spark, it makes sense to explore each of them by asking some questions:

Fun

  • How much are you enjoying what you are doing?
  • How pleasant is the culture at work and the people you work with?

Meaning

  • How meaningful is your job?
  • Is the work you are doing in alignment with your purpose and values?

Fulfillment

  • How fulfilling is the work you’re doing?
  • To what extent can you apply your talents, skills, and interests in your job?

If you find yourself in a spot where fun, meaning or fulfillment is lacking, you are not the only one.

The truth is that many of us after 20 years or more, have careers we are satisfied with to a certain extent.

This is because we are skilled and have expertise in our job. We have gotten this far because we are good at what we do.

We appreciate the opportunities we have received along the way, and the potential to continue growing horizontally or vertically in the corporate organization.

We value financial security, and we are attached to a lifestyle that we developed over time.

But, the question is … is this career still giving you fun, meaning, and fulfillment?

If you are questioning this, start by doing some inner work like I did myself.

Be true to yourself, and permit yourself to explore your feelings instead of pushing them away.

If you feel unhappy in your career, what do you need to change?

These unhappy feelings are telling you something, and instead of ignoring them start analyzing your mindset around your career.

Mindset is very important and ultimately drives our actions and therefore results. If you are aiming for other results, start with your mindset.

Your mindset determines how you look at things, and this can be changed!

"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

I love this quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer because it perfectly captures how we can change our feelings and actions once we change our mindset.

It is obvious that when we feel stuck, we cannot move forward. Our mind keeps spinning in the same circle of thoughts.

Thoughts that limit us and prevent us from moving forward.

Why is this?

We all see the world through our lenses. We have developed our perspective based on past experiences.

We are conditioned through our educators, society, and many more.

But our brain is incredibly flexible. It is a muscle you can train.

You can learn to think differently.

You can practice different thoughts.

You can change your perspective.

And with that, you can change your career AND your life.

It all starts with doing the inner work around your mindset.

That's why I have created a free e-guide that will help you take this first step of analyzing and changing your mindset around your career.

This is also part of the first step of my Dream Career Coaching Program, in which we will cover your mindset AND work with an assessment that reveals your perspective on the world.

If you feel ready to start identifying what you would like to change in your career, this is your sign!
