3 Types of Content You Need to Publish to Position Yourself As an Expert
Wouldn’t it be nice if just being an expert in your field, have all the right credentials, and years of experience was enough for people to read your content? Or better yet, trust you as an expert?
Sadly, that’s just not the case. A wealth of knowledge, not positioned correctly, more often than not gets ignored.
So if you are an expert in your field, you have the credentials, you’ve done the work to have the experience, how can you position yourself as an expert? And attract a loyal following?
Well, with some strategic positioning you can create content that not only establishes you as an expert in your field but also build a loyal audience of fans who see you as the go-to expert in your industry.
There are 3 types of content I am going to share with you in this article, and there are 3 channels we can use to publish this content. The three channels are YouTube, Blog, and a Podcast.
Each of these channels gives you a way to publish your content using a channel many go to when searching for specific content about a topic or industry.
Now you don’t have to use all three of these but I highly recommend choosing at least 2 to regularly publish content to. This allows you to build a foundation where your expertise is heard.
The 3 types of content you will want to utilize on these channels are each key to establishing yourself as an expert through sharing knowledge, proof, and leadership.
1. How-To Content
The first type of content you want to create is How-To content. This can be again in the form of a blog, video, or podcast. The important thing is you breakdown a topic, share a step-by-step approach or method you use, and are teaching your audience how to do something.
This establishes your expertise through teaching. When they can follow along, and implement something you teach when it works they now have seen firsthand that you in fact know what you’re talking about, and you’ve built trust.
2. Success Stories
People want to know that you have had success. This is why it’s important to share case studies, client stories, and examples of your work to showcase that you in fact have achieved success.
Another good way to showcase your success is to tell your story, announce an award or certification you’ve achieved, and share how you got to that success.
People want to know you and what you do. By sharing these success stories you will build up the “know” factor for your audience.
3. Thought Leadership
The last form of content to use is thought leadership. In order to establish yourself as an expert you need to show you’re audience you’re looking forward, and that you have the ability to consistently answer the big questions your audience is asking.
It’s also a great opportunity to showcase your relevance by speaking to what is happening right now and start to look forward to what you see coming next.
This keeps your audience highly engaged because they want to be on the cutting edge and understand the current conversations that are happening in your industry.
So there you have it, the 3 types of content you can use to establish yourself as an expert online! Each step is important as it builds out the cliche “know, like and trust” our audience needs in order to take the next step in the customer journey and purchase from us.
