The 3rd Saturday in October
The game was tied 49-49 with 2 seconds left on the clock.
My beloved Vols had lost 15 games in a row to the Nick Saban lead juggernaut Alabama program.
The annual Tennessee - Alabama game is known by fans as simply 'The 3rd Saturday in October.'
If you are not a college football fan I can not describe how much the outcome of this game means.
The kicker lined up for a game winning field goal attempt...making the field goal would send the 100,000 orange clad Tennessee fans into a state of absolute pandemonium.
15 years of heartbreak and frustration would be instantly forgotten.
The snap was good.
The kick went up...
If you know me personally, I am notoriously frugal...but I like to call it Financially Resilient.
Tickets for the 2022 Tennessee-Alabama game cost more than I had paid for my full allotment of season tickets in previous years!
I made an out of character decision and purchased 2 tickets for my then 15 year old son and I to go to the game.
Frankly, I was a little nauseous after spending an obscene amount of money on those tickets.
As we drove up to Knoxville for the game I remember thinking...'What else could I have better spent this money on?'
Before the game we visited my old Fraternity house and made the rounds to various tailgates with old friends and family.
We visited my old dorms, the lacrosse fields I played on and the storied places on campus.
It was an absolutely beautiful October Saturday.

It was a perfect day with my son.
Driving home after the game I was overwhelmed at the day I had just experienced with my son.
A lifetime memory was made.
The picture below is framed in our living room.
How much did the tickets cost? It does not matter.
Was the game winning kick good? It does not matter.
Making lifetime memories with the people you care about matters.
