5 Quotes To Help You Stay The Course

5 Quotes To Help You Stay The Course

Have you ever abandoned a goal? I think most of us have. We work and wait, and as time goes by, we get frustrated that it hasn’t been achieved. Maybe someone discourages us or we experience a setback. So we let it go.

It’s understandable, but it’s one of the biggest mistakes you can make.

It’s in those moments that it’s most important to stay the course. If you can stick it out for a few more weeks, months, or even another here, that’s when everything hits. It’s true whether you’re launching a startup or training for a marathon - consistency is key.

“If I’m consistent, I give myself the opportunity to be exceptional.” - Inky Johnson

Entrepreneur, speaker, father, and collegiate athlete Inky Johnson always inspires me with his thoughts, and I love this quote. There are millions of talented people out there, but not all of them become success stories. Why? Because most don’t stay the course. Consistency - in our words, actions, and work - gives us the chance to move forward and become better than we ever imagined.

“Practice creates confidence. Confidence empowers you.” - Simone Biles

As the most decorated gymnast of all time, Simone Biles knows a little something about where practice can get you. What happens on the floor wouldn’t be possible without rigorous, consistent practice. It’s the same for us, too. The more we can invest in ourselves behind the scenes, the better our eventual “performance” will be.

“Never believe anyone who says you don’t deserve what you want.” - Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift, who was just named Time’s Person of the Year, has had plenty of detractors over the years, but that hasn’t stopped her from being one of the most successful recording artists of all time. Imagine if Taylor had listened to them! This quote is an important reminder that, no matter what, there will be people who try to discourage and derail you. These can be strangers, colleagues, maybe even friends and family. Stay focused anyway. When you’re putting in good work, there’s only one way your future can go.

“Find the confidence that you have within yourselves, and then persevere.” - Kate Ryder

Kate Ryder , the CEO of women’s healthcare startup, Maven, had some bumps in the road on her way to success. It’s no secret that the venture capital industry is dominated by men, and like many women founders, Ryder struggled to get male investors excited. Rejection is never easy, and when you are working to secure funding, you hear “no” a lot. This is a very common time for people to give up. That’s when you need to take Ryder’s advice. Dig deep, and find your inner confidence. That’s the voice to listen to. Trust it, and keep going.

“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.” - Tony Robbins

Tony Robbins knows more about achieving your goals than just about anyone. I had a huge variety of quotes to choose from, but I chose this one for a very important reason: staying consistent and committed to your goals doesn’t mean staying stagnant. When things aren’t working, it’s not a sign to give up, it’s a sign to adjust your approach. There is no singular path to success, and it’s normal for detours to happen. When one path doesn’t get you there, try another. Eventually, you’ll find your way.
